Sprag Bearing question
I have been building my N9 kit, and while working bags #6 and #7 I noticed that my sprag bearing/main gear hub assy has a lot of drag. The hub will rotate by hand when secured on the main shaft, but not spin freely. I used a light oil as directed and made sure of the sprag direction. Is this condition normal? My other Brand X machines spin freely on the inner race.

Could I have assembled something incorrectly that is causing the drag. I didn't notice a top vs. bottom with the outer sprag race. Does that race have a taper?

Comments, Ideas? Thanks!

Doug

I had the same thought building mine but it loosened up
nice after the first flight and spins free now.
Not really sure why but it works now. Just my experience
good luck,

Ernie

Just like ernatz said it will free up, just make sure that steel ring is put in with a little loctite!

I read your post on the outer race, did you use a medium locktite on the outer race?

Just blue (breakaway strength) all i had at the field and its taken some abuse since

Probably during the build i would have put a high strength retaining compound (loctite green) but the beauty of blue is a little warm up with hot air gun and it might free up if replacement is ever necessary (which i would think is never)
