canopy/windshield dye
Anybody ever dye their canopy or windshield? I'd like to make my windshield darker (black) and was wondering if some sort of dye like Rit might work. Anyone ever do this? Any pics you could post so I can see what it looks like? Thanks...

Years ago I used Rit dye quite often for sailplane canopies - worked very well. If the material is the same now, or at least similar, I would expect you to have good results. A pan of water on the stove just shy of boiling, place the canopy in and remove frequently to check depth of color and lack of deforming. Use a high dye concentration. There were certain materials that benefited from adding salt to the solution to aid the color absorption. You probably won't need to use salt. Black Rit dye was once merely a very very dark purple, so be aware, but not really concerned. No pictures.

Thanks for the tips...I kind of thought that black may turn out purplish. I may just have to paint it black on the inside or buy the carbon fiber windshield.Rob
