why where all treads closed where the csm 720 gets bad press
Hi Guys,

Sorry, but i can not understand why such treads are closed. We are living in a free country.
I have had a bad experience with this Gyro too. It was send to CSM and fixed. But sometimes it works and some times not.
Because i want to fly, i have just baught me a Furtaba 611.

And Dear Colin,
all this issue with antistatik and so on....my Nt have got some antistatik spray, but this didnt help.
BTW. my Futaba 601 did never ever had problems with the belt, and in the past when i used this one i had never sprayed my belt with anything!!!!
So maybe i am to stupid for this 720 gyro, never mind. Its now sold.
And i must say that it is the last time i have bought anything else than Futaba.

regards from Denmark

Hei Janis,

Just for your info I have experienced a GY 502 going bananas because of static build up. After some searching around on this forum I found a thread where Colin had suggested that this could be the cause of a similar problem and it sure solved mine

I guess Hensleit is one of the few that have taken static buildup seriously and actually designed the model so that this would not be a problem - I wish the rest of the heli manufactorers would do the same...

What comes around goes around.

Hi Janis

I have exactly the same question as regards the thread to which I think you are referring!

Since I was not contacted in any way by the customer when he had his problems I am only too keen to discuss his issues and am also happy to do so in an open forum.

I have not requested any thread critical or otherwise of our products to be closed. I assume that the tread was closed by the original poster.

You say "all threads" - If you know of any other thread regarding CSM that has been closed I would be pleased if you would send me the link.

Best regards

Colin (CSM)

I can vouch that Colin does not hide behind deleted posts, he will talk your ears off about gyros and governors whether here in the open or in PMs.Andy

Hi Guys,

Sorry but there was a tread before this one and another which where closed. Anyway I never ment that it was Colin who closed them.
I am maybe only a little frustrated that we have 2 gyros, of 5 here in my town in denmark which was over by CSM to get fixed and now they do strange things.
It will not make a difference to write what the 720 did and what not, since I have sold mine, and my friend sold his too(he had one in january which he sold too because it stopped working). But one thing i will have to write, my friend one which came back last week from CSM, worked fine after remounting it again, then he was at the flying field and made one flight...no problem at all, then after 10 minutes brake he wanted to make another flight. Nothing worked, he even couldn get in the quick setupmode. Then he came to my place and we could do it with the Laptop. Total strange, i will never hope that such thing can happends under a flight...... That was my friends story.
I only now for sure that i have made all what was written in the manual, and tryed different pads and so on. When the 720 works its a great Gyro, hold like a futaba 601, but too many thing can happen that it stopps working. And i have never have had such problem with any of the futaba Gyros - never. My last 720 one is sitting in my T-Rex 450 and works until now. But this is also an electric driven heli.
But we are several here in denmark which went over to futaba again, cause these are plug and play gyros, and never have had problems with engines, weather condition and so on....

I wish Colin good luck with his products.

Hi Janis

Well, as you know we are only too happy to help customers and to investigate problems they have. Perhaps you could encourage your friends to contact us at the factory so that we can assist them.

The track record of CSM shows that we are always pushing to advance performance beyond the current norms and to do so at an affordable price. I believe that this policy has had a profound effect both on the performance and price of products from the larger but inherently more conservative manufacturers. I can think of no sporting endeavour where the ultimate in performance comes from a completely plug and play approach. Anyone who has had experience of motor racing knows this only too well - a car may be quick out of the factory but careful race preparation will put it in an entirely different league.

A significant part, therefore, of what a customer gets when they obtain one of our products is the support of the factory team - so they can obtain the best from the product. Its because of this commitment that I spend so much of my time on this forum.

Best regards

Colin (CSM)

I have to admit i am a total convert to CSM.

I was one of those having a go in the infamous "one for you CSM lovers thread" and I was a futaba man for a long time.

now have 3 CSM 720's that work flawlessly in a futura nova, fury extreme and now a synergy. I had one in a Knight 50, and the only thing that wasnt utterly crap about the heli was the gyro.

Its perfect with the 8700G. reliable, piro rate constant, everything.

Only thing i have found is that the choice of tape is important, some helis like the fury need the futaba tape, the synergy needs the csm tape. But that would have been the same issue with the futaba anyway.

i thrash the proverbial living daylights out of mine and my flying has come on leaps and bounds as they are consistent flight to flight. Its a major confidence builder when the Gyro works.

the 720 really is brilliant, and considering the bashing i and others gave back then, colin really has nailed it. In fact all of the futaba guys i know now fly csm's.

on the other side, Colin really does know his stuff and will bend over backwards to help everyone. I take my business cues from CSM as customer service is 99% of the battle. You wouldnt get that from futaba.

Colin, please dont ever stop making these things

I am sorry to tell you that will never be an issue for futaba. And thats for sure, we have 3 people which has 4 GY 611 and 2 GY601 at our flying field. All sitting in different helis. Only use the tape from futaba and then it works.Even with the factory settings.
I have had 2 Gy 601 last year.1 in a Henseleit NT and 1 in a Henseleit Rocket. The Rocket have a 23ccm Webra Engine installed. And even in this machine the Gy 601 worked with normal original servo mount.
But as i can see it is like women, some like the mothers...other the daughters, so this will never come to an end.
I am only glad that my new GY 611 will arrive this weekens and i dont need a Formel 1 service team to get this working

I had a Rocket.

What a pain that heli was. Never could get rid fo the vibration, NEVER.

In fact i really think it was just an exercise in pushing the technology.

The one problem with the 611 is the 9256. Its just not relaible enough to not cause issues. I know someone who went through 5 of them in 8 months.

btw ive had 601's out of my ears. and ive flown the 611. Theres no comparison in piro performance with a CSM.

Maybe, but what the Szabos or other can do with the Futaba 611,then i think the piro rate is good enough for the most of us.....

Hi,
If i should list the things i have tryed, then it will take too much of my time, sorry.
But i have tryed different tapes. But if i buy a product where it recomend only to use what follow with it......what should i do then?
Anyway like i wrote before, it is sold and the last one sits in my rex 450 until it stops working. Then it will be replayced by a futaba 401.

SubSailor,

Yes I am using the zeal gel with my 720's. Works perfect--enough vibration isolation without the softness of the CSM pads. I was having a little trouble with the pads on my Avants. Aggressive manouvers would make the tail give a little wiggle like the gyro was moving around, even with the 6 pads. The zeal solved that problem.

Hi Lorents

Thank you for your offer but, the 720 still works in my Rex 450.
So I will only buy a new one if it stops to work.

No prob Janis - just saw an opportunity to get another 720

BTW, last winter we had a couple incidences here in Norway where the white Futaba tape splitted in the middle and caused the gyro sensor to fall off. Dont know if this was just a coincidence or if the Futaba tapes doesnt handle cold too well, but many of us replaced the tape after that.

Here is how Dr.Phils tape looked like after it happened:

Hi,

I think one of the Japan F3C guys shifts hes Gyro tape every 3rd month. I think I read that in ROTOR the German helicopter magazine.
When I fly thje 601 then i looked after the tape before i went out flying. So had never this issue. And the tape hold over 1 year.

CWhover(Carl),
That's what I was wondering. I have just recently started using Zeal and I love the stuff!! I had been eyeballing the CSM 720 but now I'm having second thoughts BUT that's why I asked about Zeal as it seems as though it may solve some of these problems, ie like using SIX layers of tape etc! Just me kind of thinking out loud.....

SubSailor,

I love this gyro! I'm no 3D master, but I can definitely tell the difference. No "whip" in the piros, absolutely consistent even with strong winds. Not as plug and play maybe as a 611, but I haven't really had to trick with the settings to get great performance. It is pretty sensitve to vibes, but as long as the heli is decently smooth, it works extremely well.

there is NO way threads are being closed, if CSM threads were being closed there is far, no, FAR worse CSM threads than anything anyone has said about the 720 on RR.

you had no luck with yours but i'm on my 4th 720 and never had any problems with them. they are a bit harder to setup in terms of you need to actually have a degree of tuning ability for the engine and understand if your heli has vibes then do you want to fix the vibes or buy a gyro to hide them? it's not super sensitive on vibes but it's more so than a 601/611, however the flight performance is superb.

cheers
