heli gearing
How come Hawk pros dont have to change any of the gears when upgraded to a .50 and our .30 evos need a ten tooth gear change when being upgraded to a 50?

I don't know about the Hawk, but it is quite common in the heli arena to offer different gearing for different engines. The idea is to get the engine running in its optimum power band while having an optimal headspeed for the type of flying that is desired.

The smaller engines have higher RPM power peaks, and therefore require different gearing.

If you try to run the Evo 50 with the 9 tooth pinion gear, you'll only get up to 1750 RPM headspeed with the engine at 17K as compared to 1950 RPM with the 10 tooth pinion gear.

I didn't care for the 30 pinion on the OS50. I tried it to trade the speed for torque. 1750 after flying 1950 felt like flying it in slow motion and no real gains were noticed.

Keep in mind that the '30 gearing was originally designed for the older 30-class motors like the OS32SX; not the newer 40-class motors like the OS37 or Toki.

The OS32SX likes to run over 20K RPM to get any decent power. The OS37SZ is more like the '50 class, with good power in the 17K-18K range.

The Sceadu Evo 50 runs 600~610 main blades,
where as the 30 ran 550 blades,
as the 30 and 50 weight much the same
having shorter blades would mean a higher wing loading
and the OS32 does like to rev very hard

I fly my Sceadu at 2050 in idle up
and normal mode is 1750 (slow )
