I like the idea that Carlos Mencia came up with...use Mexicans to patrol our border! Who else would be better to distinguish between Mexicans and Middle Easterners?!?

Senor! Senor! He no speaking Spanish!

I can't believe it: Fools are marching and protesting all over the country: Where in the hell are the INS busses. Man , this country is dying: Let us go to Mexico City and try this Sh$$. Never see daylight again. If the citizens of the US don't start giving the states and the Congress some bad feedback, it's over.Honey, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

I am a (legal) immigrant- I was born in England and moved to the USA about 11 years ago.

To get here and stay, first I had to get a (H1b) visa (and visas for my wife and kids), then a permanent resident visa ("green card" ), which requires fingerprinting and criminal record checks. The entire process took almost 8 years before the last of us got the complete set of documents. It cost my employer quite a lot in legal fees (and fees to the INS so they will actually look at the documents!)

To me it is ridiculous to have such a thorough process as the above, and then turn your back on it just because someone has got away with breaking the law for some period of time.

Immigration is a complex issue, so getting the law right can take several attempts, but a dual standard like the above only teaches that it is OK to break the law so long as you can get away with it for long enough. Can you imagine the same standard applied to drug dealers? "It's OK to sell drugs outside the school so long as you can prove you've been doing it for the last 5 years!" Yeah, right!

I know for politicians it is risky to say "we're going to enforce the law" if a large part of their vote comes from people who are sympathetic to illegal immigrants, but I do think this is an issue where they need to stop trying to blurr the issue and actually stand up for the law. (If the law is wrong, change it, dont ignore it!)

You'll probably see from my other posts in the "off-topics" I'm generaly something of a liberal, but this is one issue where you cant afford to be.

Couldn't agree with you more: It's guys like you , that pay the price, do it right, and end up getting a screwing from south of the border law breaker. I'm lucky, born here. Come from Cherokee stock, with some english, irish mix. I'm at the age, where you look back and wonder what in he(( is going on. This nation is adrift, no leadership and totally bankrupt in the morals department. Still a great ship, but has some serious leaks.Honey, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

I left California because of this issue. They ask us to vote on it (prop 187 and 210) and when the vote doesn't turn out the way they want, it is overridden in the court. When I first got to Ohio I noticed a few vans full of illegal's now and then, but now the vans are everywhere. Soon Ohio will be as bad as Calif. Where do I go next?

I dought that you will find relief in the east. Too many growers, from Florida thru the Carolinas. Entire state of Texas, as you can imagine. Problem is, they are so embedded, if they get picked up, be back in 2 weeks. Be waving at the INS>Honey, where's the check book, it's Fedex again

See those politicians that get there vote from illegals and illegal supporters outta be out of a job. I dont see how the hell you could be sympathetic to illegals! They have everything! Free health care, welfare, free schooling, etc! Hell at this point im about to renounce my citizenship, flee to mexico and sneak back in as an illegal, life would certainly be much cheaper and easier! These benefits should be going to the people who paid into the system! Not free loaders who break laws, and were supposed to feel bad for these people! Give me a break! Rob I respect what you have done in coming to this country. I understand the process can be a bit lengthy and hard to get through, but you did it, and im sure that you now actually contribute to this country unlike all the ones down south. What are we saying to the people like you that have gone through it legally, when we dont deport all the illegals? It's saying screw the legal system, their won't be any consequences! That's completely f'ed up and America is freaking doomed if the people don't wake up and start enforcing our laws.

Hi 3D WASP, I think you should go back and check my post. I'm on your side of this argument - ie if you break the law you should expect some jail time. I dont agree at all with the idea of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

In the text you quoted I was just trying to point out the problem of why there isn't much political will to stand up and fix the problem. It's a pity, but the likely consequence of standing up for enforcing the law is to get voted out of office.

I totally knew you were on my side, re-read my text, it reflects that. I don't think I mis-understood a thing.

that was not aimed at you at all, it was just in general. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. I know which side of the fence you are on, no worries there.

Well today I heard that this topic polls over 70% nation wide among americans,
The Senate postpones the amnesty bill, saying they'll put security first. They vote for a fence , but then don't approve funding.
Bush says that he'll put the national guard on the border while the 2000? reinforcement ins agents are being trained .
but only 200? are payed for.

Pretty sure the republicans don't want to be in charge no more.
And to top it off those 2 agents that are looking at 20yrs.

Guess thats why V didnt seem that far fetched.

It's gonna to fall apart.
Oh well.
Ive been bitching about this for to long .
Nah leave it the way it is,the kings know whats best for us peasants.

Fence the border israeli stile.
Fix the visa skipping problem.
I am tired of this incompetant BS.
And then tell me stories of how the economy is good because of all of this crimal activity.Yhea some are doing good ,competeing illegally against the one's that follow the law.
Is this really the standard they are promoting?
Nah we shouldnt all have a common language
and we dont all have to be citizens.
Just come on in .Who you are is none of our concern.

and we dont have to be treated equally under the law.
Thats just for us suckers.
Being this angry cant be healthy.

Dave,
I hear ya. Just remember, here in the US, voting no longer means anything. The people in charge vote the way they do because they are paid to do it by those who have the means to pay them. Remember the guy, who recently, was found with $90K in cash in his freezer?

first off there is no more INS, it all changed to CBP (Customs and Border protection) a merger of legacy the immigration/customs/agriculture at the border. in country violations there is ICE (immigration and customs enforcement). I myself will not comment on the effectiveness of these agencies.

INS CBP ICE
Does it really matter ?
Illegals protest in the streets (more than once)and there is no mass deportation.
Last summer they had a caravan to DC and police en route were told to leave them alone.
He)) that woman (,in where is it Minnesota ?)hold up in a church.
Was working at a airport using a false ID gets caught, gets deported
gets caught ,deported .This time she holds up in a church and they don't grab her WTF
Media saying she's the "Rosa Parks" of the immigration issue.

The border patrol notify mexico where the minute men are so the illegals can use alternate routes.

And then there's the 2 border patrol agents. Prosecuting attorney saying that the smuggler was only raising money for his sick mother.
He gets total immunity for all of his crimes . His civil rights are some how violated ?

What happens when something other than pot is the cargo?
What happens when LA is a crater ?

Border patrol agents want to do their job , but our government won't let them ,so whats the point?

think about this for a minute......
It's a pity, but the likely consequence of standing up for enforcing the law is to get voted out of office.
WHY WOULD IT MATTER???? The turds that might get voted out have already secured their PERMANANT PENSION.....just get elected ONCE, the paycheck is guarenteed FOR LIFE. The entire premise of this was to enable them to vote on what is RIGHT, not what is popular. If they cannot (or WILL NOT) then it is up to ALL OF US to vote them OUT.

As for the media, politicians, and the rest of the FOOLS that keep changing the name of the criminals to make them seem less of one....get REAL. They are NOT "undocumented workers" or any of the other bullsh1t tags you want to use.

Get them loaded up and GONE. Better yet, give Sheriff Joe Arapo of Maricopa County, Arizona a call. Bet he can hook them up with some R & R to contemplate why they wouldn't want to try to come back. Its all legal too, as the criminals in Arizona have had the bleeding heart liberal lawyers try to prove it isn't....too bad for them, the TV the did win the right to watch has one channel.....DISNEY !

Secure the border, get a count of the Senators and Congressional members that oppose it....and FIRE THEM. Party lines be damned.

If none of you guys employed them or nedded their services....you figure it out...

Gee, ya think ???
HOW was it gettin done BEFORE they all showed up???

You cannot tell me we just created jobs because they were coming, right?

Why is it I no longer need to speak Ebonics to order a hamburger without cheese at burger king, McDonalds, Wendys...but NO QUESO gets it the way I want it??

I'll tell ya how...shut down the welfare state, have jobs that the welfare "retirees" can do (some of these will be vacated by the mass exodus), and lets have a WILD and WOOLEY economy for a couple years.....

Why NOT??

Besides, the skills that they take home with them (and honestly, they really didn't learn all of it here to begin with) can be used to crete an economy SOUTH of the Border. I simply cannot and WILL NOT believe that Drug Running, Human Smuggling, Prostitution, and a few tourist towns are all the Mexican economy is about. I know too many Nationals that are Doctors and the like.

BTW, when I go to the ranch, the work is done by myself and a few friends.....granted, it's not BIG (400 acres).........and I mow my own yard, watch my own kids, and clean my own house. I could give a rats azz if my neighbors yard doesn't get mowed once a week, even in the winter.

Well I guess some bothered to do the jobs before they came and now they don't, low status, low paying, cra..y hours etc etc
Fact stands, if US citizens didn't employ them there is no reason for coming, maybe you should focus on your own ranks...that's where the "problem" lays?

Would you like to work at McDo? Me neither...

A few years ago, all of the regular canteen staff disappeared at the place I worked then. The rumor was that the INS had served notice of an inspection the following day. Within a few days the staff had all been replaced, and no, the canteen prices didn't go up!

I think the law needs to be upheld or reformed- just ignoring it isn't going to solve the problem. My opinion is first enforce the current law (i.e. arrest, jail & eventually deport the law breakers). If the need for more workers is then proven, the existing immigration quotas should be raised. Priority should be given to those who have shown a willingness to work within the law- people who have shown a willingness to break the law should be right at the bottom of the list.
