T-rex 450 or MX-400?
Hey guys, i'm about to buy an MX 400. It has an excellent set up and i'm getting it for just $300.

Brushless motor, gy 401, futaba servos, Carbon Fiber Frame with a back-up Aluminum frame and CF blades, aluminum head. It is brand new, just built and sitting on the shelf.

Now.. what I want to know is what is the performance difference between this MX 400 and a T-rex 450 with the exact set up? Is the MX400 bigger or smaller than the T-rex, or is it heavier? Any answers appreciated. Thanks

Ya it is a really good deal. I have a friend at a LHS and he always calls me when somebody drops off a good heli that's cheap.

Thanks for the replies.

JamesonMalpezzi, you say if i'm not a 3d master then go for it. Quick question: what is the difference? People are always saying a T-rex is better for 3d, but why?

The MX400 has a more tame cyclic response than the Trex. The Trex is better suited for 3D because of this. If you prefer sport flying, then the MX400 is fine.

just buy it. I´s an amazing price...!!! last sunday, I had the oportunity to fly an MX-400 (ARK-400) and letme say how impress I was when it was on the air, soo stable and precise. it´s for shure an exellent flying machine. In the future, if you want to fly "Hard core 3D" (and I say "hard core 3D" because I´ve seen this heli, with a setup like this flying extreme 3D manouvers) all that you have to do it´s replace the paddles for some lightened paddles, like carbon fiber, or yust some T-rex XL or SE paddles (this two helis can share a lot of parts)

hmm
What I thought was interesting was at the Owatonna Ring out there was 10 trexes for every one mx. The mx won the drag..lol.

Seriouslly. The Mx can do a lot of things, but from what I have seen it will not do tick tocks very good as it doesnt have the mechanical cyclic like the trex does. If there is a mod or diffrent head design that would make more travel rather than the cage I think there would be more mx's in 3d applicaions.

I have an Ark X400... it's not bad.. a bit of a beater machine. Slop develops easily on the linkages and all the plasic parts. It's lighter than the Trex so the align 430L motor will do just fine for it. I'd suggest using the Align 315 pro wood blades, rocks like hell. CF ones I had added a bit more weight and affected flight performance. I use mine to do basic 3D manuevers with first before I do it on the Raptor 50... cheaper to fix just incase I screw up. Tic Tocs will actually depend on the power supply and collective management (the more throttle you use one way, the more power you need to counteract the previous input, just enough does it nicely).

Most of the replacement parts I have now installed on it after several crashes are Align parts... head and tail. The align parts tend to be sturdier and manufactured better.

For hovering and learning how to fly, sure why not, the prce ain't so bad. For hard 3D, I'd go for the Trex (with aluminum stuff)... but you could probably pick up a decent Trex for the same price.
