Night Vision Goggles and Night Flying
A buddy of mine has access to a rather nice set of NVGs, and we had the idea of night flying a T-Rex without night blades or rope.

Here are some pics of the experience:

In the first pic you'll see me in the middle ground, and the NVGs reflecting light off of the back of my eyeballs. This was on a pitch black night out in front of my friend's house, and without the flash on the camera, he couldn't see anything.

For me I could see plain as day.

After spool up, my buddy started snapping pics, even though he had no idea where the heli was. He knew where I was standing and he could hear the copter, but actual framing of the pic was tough.

As for me, I could see him, the street, the copter, everything except the rotor disk with brilliant clarity. That is until he snapped a pic and the flash would briefly white out my vision. Within a fraction of a second, however, the NVGs returned to normal and I just kept flying.

Next time around we're going to try some inverted shots!

My buddy is an air ambulance paramedic. I don't know the specific model of NVGs but I was blown away. Looking up into the black sky, I spotted aircraft miles away, 4 satelites, moths and other bugs, plus a series of bats... None of which my friends who were standing next to me could see.

The next time we get to try this, I'll see if we can't take a picture of the image projected through one of the barrels.

Awesome. With fall and winter coming, it would be great to have a set of NVG so I could continue flying.

Looks very expensive....

Great, now I have to justify another purchase to my fiance.

"Honey, I NEED these night vision goggles, cause ummmm....."

I can see that this one is not going to go over too well.
