More ?'s
Got my Evo 50 up and I noticed a couple of things wrong with it. The first thing is when I'm in a hover (tail towards me) it looks like the air frame is leaning or tilted. The other issue I have is the tail drifts counter clockwise in a hover and when I go full collective it swings about 60 degrees then holds. The gyro I have is a Gy-502.

Thanks, John

Lean is normal.

Drift needs to be mechanicly adjusted in rate (normal) mode on the gyro.

Once you get that set. Reset the gyro or restart the system.

Heli should not drift in rate mode under calm conditions and no throttle input.

Tail swinging out is due to several things:
1. Tail servo is too slow.
2. Slop in linkages.
3. Gyro gain not high enough.
4. Head speed not high enough to get tail speed up.
5. Tail blades too short for application.

TX used
blade lengths (main and tail)
fuel used
Governor

Stuff like that.

I could have knocked 5 off the list if I knew what was on the heli.

Not trying to stir up anything, just pointing out we can help you better with more info. If you put it in your profile you will not have to put it in your posts when you ask questions.

Tail swinging out is due to several things:
also, if the gyro is in rate rather than HH/AVCS mode, you need REVO mixing ie pitch/throttle -> rudder

Tail blades are 95mm curved blue plastic. Servo is a 9253. And the gain is at 90 in AVCS and 83 in normal mode.

Thanks

How far out is the ball on the tail rotor servo horn from the screw?

Center to center in mm's please.

Are you starting the gyro in HH (ACVS) mode?

17mm center to center. The Gear switch on my TX switches the gain from 90 to 83. I was flying in 90 I did not try the 83 setting. A guy at the field help set this up I think he was flying in 83%. Maybe the 90% is for idle up.Ya....That'll still fly

Any idea what the headspeed is when it does it?

Is the linkage binding anywhere?

Have you set up the tail in Normal mode yet?

Don't know what the head speed is, it sounds like it's where it should be. No binding anywhere. Yes, I set the tail up in normal mode first.Ya....That'll still fly

I would try upping the gain until it starts to wag then back off a bit.

If possible I would also swap out the tail blades for either glass or carbon ones.

If you swap the tail blades you will need to re set up the tail in normal mode.

I,m going to order 95mm V blades. I don't know why I need to set up the tail again after I put new blades on. The trows will remain the same. Can you explain this to me? I ask cause I don't understand. I will try to up the gain.

Thanks, John

Since the tail blades will be more effective, they will use less throw for a given torque.

This will change the mechanical setup, thus the requirement to re set up the tail.
