Throttle cut on 14mz works even on Idle up at full throttle
This is the only real problem i am having with my new 14mz. I obv did something incorrect in the throttle cut setup, bc it works at all throttle settings, not just when throttle is below 15%. The throttle hold works perfectly in every condition for doing autos and stuff, but the throttle cut is also active at all times, so if i were to accidentally hit it while 3ding, my motor shuts off. what did i do wrong?

Set the hold position in throttle hold mode.

Make sure the hold condition is the last condition (highest priority).

throttle hold works fine, its throttle cut that is acting up. its not supposed to work in the idle ups so u cant accidentally cut the engine at full speed. its only supposed to work when below 15% throttle (at idle in other words)Art Hughes

I'm wondering...does throtle cut work if the throttle stick is below a certain point, rather than the throttle setting as per the curve?Vibe 90, Vibe 50, Vigor CS x2,

thats what it seems to do, which means at full negative in idle up, the switch becomes active so if u were to accidentally hit it, its auto time. it should definately go by throttle curve points, but it doesnt seem to. and i am using the manual setup.Art Hughes

I can't speak for the 14 but the 9c will do the same. I set the throttle at full low and set that point as the active point for the kill to function. I don't use the 15% anymore because of the problem you mention. In idle up at full low it is still active. I figure it's not often I'm at full negative for any length of time so the odds of me hitting kill while there would be rare. Actually in 10 years of flying I have never accidently hit the kill. I agree with you that it would be nice to be able to have it programmed to the curve so you don't accidently activate it but if you really think about it, if one was to crash in idle up and still maintain radio contact, being able to kill the engine without having to take the time to switch to normal might be a good thing. One other thing is if the engine is running, hitting the kill doesn't kill my engine instantly. It takes a second or two to stop so a quick bump may not be a major problem. If you mistake it for a different switch then you may have a problem. If so you could always disable it and use the old school way.

maybe it was always like that on my 9c as well and i never noticed. as u mentioned, i doubt i could ever hit it in flight, and if i did i could auto it normally without issue. just wasnt sure if it was supposed to be like that. thanks for the inputArt Hughes

The 9Z will do the same thing, allow throttle cut to work even in idle up. My solution for years has been to disable throttle cut, make a simple throttle to throttle mix to kill the engine at the very bottom of throttle stick travel, assign the mix to the cut switch and make the mix only active in normal conditon.Allen Dye

On my 14MZ the throttle cut only works below a certain stick point no matter what condition I am in, including Throttle Hold or either one of my Idle Up Conditions.AMA Leader Member

sounds same as 9Z then.
It works on absolute stick position, like below 5% throw, rather than based on throttle setting. Weird...

There's two places to set this.

In the Throttle hold screen, you have 2 sides to the screen. Throttle hold and Throttle Cut Hold.

If you disable the throttle cut hold in that screen, then go to the throttle cut screen it will behave like you want it to.

The throttle cut hold overrides the throttle cut for some reason.

So Mike, are you suggesting to create an additional flight condition which sits between normal and idle 1 (so it only works if in normal), assigned to the sprung switch which on activation cuts the throttle?Vibe 90, Vibe 50, Vigor CS x2,

No, I'm saying that if you inhibit the throttle cut hold side of the screen in the throttle hold menu item then go into the throttle cut menu item and activate it, it will only allow the throttle cut to be activated below a certain stick position (on the throttle curve).

When your in idle up, you never get below say 40% (because of the V-curve) and the spring switch won't kill the engine.

I had the same issue and changed it this past weekend (never realized it prior to that).

Although re-thinking the situation, I think I may change it back and move the throttle cut hold to the 3 position switch on the face of the transmitter, basically so I can cut the engine in any mode, but I can't accidentally kill the engine trying to hit the hold switch.

OK,

I downloaded the manual (at work) and the throttle cut functionality is under the linkage menu. The manual describes it on page 65. This is what you want to set so that the engine cut works at low stick.

The Throttle Hold is under the Model Menu. This is where there are 2 sides to the screen. On the left is the Throttle Hold (cut) menu which is what you want to inhibit. This is in the manual on page 114.

I've noticed the same thing on my 9Z and 14MZ but really, don't you want cut to work at all throttle stick settings and all conditions? I know I do.

As an example, if I'm doing some low inverted work and the tail servo fails I'd like the option of killing the engine before it spins into the ground setting up the ol' funky chicken.

One of my golden rules is if it's going to hit the ground, I'd like to kill the engine before the crash knocks off the carby linkage or tosses out the battery.

I'm fully aware that I could accidentally kill the engine at an inappropriate time but that is a chance I'll take.

Just a thought...
