trex 450xl batterys
might know the ansewer but figured i would get a cenus of opinion, i have 2 thunder power 2100mah 11.1v 3 cell lipo 15c packs, each has about 20-30 flif=ghts on them, neither of them will take a charge anymore. charge them with a triton charger set to 11.1v at .03amp. when i try to charge the charger imeadiatly says its done. is it time to replace the packs? am doing something wrong?
thanks

What is the voltage of the batteries before you try to charge? If you had run the batteries down too far the Triton would not even try to charge them.
I assume you meant you tried to charge them at .3 amps not .03 amps. Not that this should have anything to do with them. I usually charge my lipos at .7C. A 2100 pack I would charge at 1.5 amps. Never had a battery problem with this setting.
I've pulled some boners with lipos over the past two years but I guess most of us have.

Was the packs hot after you have finished your flight?

ok the general ansewer is yes, yes im charging at .3amps, yes the paks are usally hot after a flight, and no i dont think i ran them all the way down but one pack if i put it in the machine wont even turn the rotor at all so i guess its run all the way down. is there anyway to recover from this or is it a paperwieght now?Helicopter Enthusiast of Long Island (H.E.L.I.)

You said that one of the packs won't even turn the blades. That might not be that bad. It could mean that your LVC has cut in and it will keep you from draining your batteries. Depending on your ESC and programing your battery may be OK. If the blades don't turn can you still get a response from your servos when you wiggle the sticks?
Best thing is do you have a voltage meter? If so what is your battery voltage? Hopefully you still have at least 9 volts.
How about the second pack?
Sometimes you can get a pack to recover but with diminished capacity.
I have a 1900 3 cell that will spin my rotors and get my Trex off the ground for about a minute and then my rotors won't spin anymore. I can draw 4 or 5 amps from it for a heck of a long time but it won't supply anything more than that unless freshly charged and then for only a minute or so.

Yep ,,,, you killed your pack not knowing what you were doing!!!
Hard lesson to learn,, So,,, first never fly your pack to long.. A 2100 TP pro. should fly for about 7 to 8 minutes max.... You need to know how much mAh you are taking out of your packs.. This changes all the time, with things like,, head wind, using idle up with more rpm.Hovering takes more mAh then easy forward flight. So,, if you don't have a battery charger with a LCD screen on it get one.A good battery charger like. IntelliPeak ICE Duratrax is a very good one and comes with a 5 year warranty for about a $120.00 http://WWW.duratrax.com
You should never fly your helicopter until it won't stay in the air.
Never take out more then 80% out of your battery pack. 2100mAh = 1650mAh put back in.. I try to never go above 1500mAh. If you don't stop flying before this,,any battery will get bad very fast!!
Hope this helped..

ok, so let me make sure i understand all this so i dont destroy any more packs,
as soon as the heli starts to show signs of trouble staying in the air i need to stop flying that pack?

also, is there any other tips i should know to extend the life of the packs?

how should i charge them (amps, voltage)

thanks a ton

time your flights, for 7 to 8 mins. let the batteries cool and then hook them up to the charger. see how much mah you put back into the battery and adjust your flight time to the amount of mah you put back in. For example using a Tp 2100 pack. It is recommend to only use 80 percent of the 2100 pack so that would be 1650mah. Put a fully charged battery in the trex and fly for 7 mins. Take it out and then start charging it. At the end of the charge it will tell you how much mah it put in. So say after a 7 min flight the charger put in 1320mah. With that information you can keep flying for about another minute or 2 before you reach close to that 80 percent mark. Hope that helps. Also Im in nassau county I see that your in suffox, what field do you fly at. I belong to seaviewrotary wings.

ok. battery had a strange resurection. i tried to charge it again and it took a charge. got a 4 min flight out of it and it took 2000mah so aparently im still over flying the pack. i figure a 3 min flight will stop destroying the pack. is there any way to bring it back to 8 min flight?Helicopter Enthusiast of Long Island (H.E.L.I.)

No,,,,, it's to late....
And when you get new ones. TP 2100 you can charge them at 2.1A not .03 ... You are safe to charge to 1C of pack...
