Has anyone actually had their heli just fly off into heaven?
For eg, the throttle arm becoming loose and going into full throttle.Battery beoming loose during critical moment.
What I mean is you are in nice hover and the heli just rips into the sky vertically ,never to be seen again ?

Anyone??

Yes done that a few years ago. Flying a Concept30 rolled it inverted did a nice pass down the field then it then started to gain height and started circling, i had no control at all. I switched off my TX and sat in my car and watched it ready to give chase.

The little concept climbed to about 3000ft still circling the Irvine 36 never missed a beat. Local light aircraf where now on there finals below my heli so now i was panicking what IF!!.
Anyway it driffted off still circling out over a local village so i gave chase listening for the fuel to run out, then the engine cut fuel empty it started to tumble flipping from inverted to upright and slowing every time it was upright.

I saw the heli come down in an empty field and after a short time i found it with only minor damage to the boom and an undercarraige leg the blades where OK.
Lucky in so many ways.

The reason, are you ready, The cannopy had dropped about 1/2 inch when inverted this caught the on off switch and that where this story starts.

A new guy came to the field one day with a raptor that he just got used. well he told the guy checking it over that the battery was charged 2 days before and a hour before coming out to the field. after couple hovers to tune the engine the heli started slowly piro'ing by that time no control at all. it slowly climbed away piro'ing until we could not see it anymore. it was drifting toward the army base. he went to the mp's office to let them know.

same here i also lost a concept 30 the same way u did (not inverted il say ) and i was near crainfield airport as well, but i had no car or bike and all i could do was watch it go over the duel carrageway and over high power lines in to the distance and at high speed,
never to be seen again, i did go to every farm up to 10miles away with my contact details just incase it was in any of there fields, but nope never saw her again,

I'm surprized this doesn't happen more often.
Before I started taping my RX crystals in my JR receivers, i had one fall out. Luckily, i was hovering about a foot off the deck and the heli just stayed low and drifted into the ground.

Wow that's incredible Falcon! My battery came unplugged during a wannabe death spiral and it just twisted and turned all the way to the ground after it smashed into the side of my apartment complex! Oh yeah and it came unplugged at about 85% throttle...so when it hit it was burning the clutch until the clutch bell blew apart and my engine was running at 85% with 0 load!! Wow was it screaming. I finally got over to it and pulled the fuel like. I still haven't rebuilt it..but I disassembled the engine and everything looks okay.Remember when flying inverted that down is up and up is EXPENSIVE!

This happened to me tonight with my Raptor50. I'd just installed a new muffler and was trying some new fuel, so i was trying to tune it in the back garden. Hovering about a foot from the floor, it suddendly went to full throttle, with absolutely no transmitter response, I even tried to dump it with full cyclic). That OS 50 Hyper sure made it climb fast. Cyclic was perfectly centred with no wind so the heli just went straight up until finally out of sight, Watched the skies for 20 mins looking for signs of it coming down somewhere, but was never seen again don't think i'll ever see my heli again!

got a before picture, but I doubt they'll be an after shot, Will post one if I find it though

Happened to me in November of 2004. Insane piro rate, and I believe the battery disconnected itself. The heli was in a slow climb piro'ing really fast.

It traveled about 1/4 to 1/3 of a mile to the lake west of our flying field. I have not found the helicopter.

Many years ago I was watching a new guy that had just taken his training gear off. He was hovering around in front of himself for about five minutes then all of a sudden the heli tillted forward and started gaining altitude. At first I thought wow this guy is brave, just took his trainers off and is already starting with forward flight. I thought he was in control because the heli was flying so strait and at a steady rate. Next thing I know he is yelling I don't have it I don't have it. All we could really do was watch it fly off. It was the wierdest thing becuase it was flying strait and steady until we couldn't see it anymore. We all got in our cars and tried following it, but it took of across some fields that didn't have any roads. We had to drive around 10 miles to get to the next road in the direction the heli went.

We never did find it. Nor did we ever figure out what happened.

I saw a guy setting a Hawk up for someone - he gave it full pitch and the heli went up pretty quick and the RX battery came done pretty fast too - heli flew around enjoying it's freedom for a bit before ploughing into the patch.

Update,
my Raptor was found 2 miles away. The crash damage is unbeleivable!

Blades, Boom, Verticle stab, Main Gear, Main Shaft, Feathering Spindle & one servo. Less than £50 to fix.

I was expecting to bring it back as a bag of bits! lol

Update,

Wow - congratulations on the find!

I had one fly away awhile back - was doing some simple circuits and some forward flight. Had just started doing flips - I thought I was getting close to the bottom of the tank so I brought it around for one last pass of the field. at the far end I brought it down about 3 feet off the ground and piro'd it towards me - it paused and piro'd away then slowly started to climb.......... I had lost it - not control nothing. I wound up setting the TX down and chasing out into the desert on foot after it. after running about 2/3 mile through thorn bushes (I was wearing shorts and my legs were nothing but blood at this point) I was about to give up chase as I could barely keep track of it and keep running (it was so far away)...... when suddenly it looked like it was coming back towards me - - I finally realized it had run out of gas and was falling. I started running, noting a exact bearing to where it was falling from. I finally found it about 25 feet from a house that was being built in a new sub-division...... all told - the heli was a complete loss - except for a couple servos, receiver and engine - and one or two small parts that survived. I seen a few people (I assumed that lived in that new sub-division) and I had quite a chuckle while making my way back though the bush thinking about what they thought of it all. (small child runs in "Mommy mommy - a plane crashed! a plane crashed!" - "Where?" as they exit the house a guy in shorts with blood on legs and arms breaks out of the bush - looks around, picks up a bunch of "stuff" off the ground and speeds back into the bush.......

At anyrate - all told I checked where it came down and the temp that day - she flew 1.8 miles on her own and it was 118 degrees that day while I was running her down.
OK, so it won't fly any better but it looks damn good on my shelf. Bling-Bling!

Hey I gotta add myself to this list because today it almost happened My heli blade cp flew off but the only thing that stoppped it was this big 50 foot maple tree. It hit the tree about 30 feet to 40 feet up and came down hitting the street. Damage was 1 broken skid leg and ate the antena wire up But come to find out I had a faulty 4-1 and replaced it and its back to normal Talk about a tree being in the way at the right time Jimmi
