Main gear for the Rap.50
Hello, I have a question would like to find out some answer from here:

The main gear for my Rap.50 is damaged after a crash today, I know it is 85T for the Rap.50, which I don't have one in hand for spear, but I have a 86T main gear at this moment, I believe it should be for the Rap.30, so can I use this 86T main gear for my Rap.50 instead of the 85t? if so what the result might be?

Thank you.

the result would be... if it will actually work, a slightly slower headspeed, and a bit more torque. Were talking a pretty small difference.

But I don't THINK it will allign properly. You might be able to get it to go, but I don't think its possible.

If I were you, I'd just buy a new gear and don't risk sending your helicopter up in a unsafe manner. A new engine and bearings, and main shaft will be more than a gear.

The gears wont mesh as there is no adjustment on the Raptor 30/50 machines. You need to use either the 30 pinion with it or get another 85T main gear.

forgot to mention, I do have the pinion for the 30size Raptor.
So, if I change the pinion to what use for the Rap.30, I could use the 86T main gear for my Rap.50? I just try to get this heli into the air on Sunday, it will take me a few day to get a new 85T gear, that is the reason I try to use the 86T that i have for it.
Thanks for all your input.

If you have the 30 pinion too then it will work OK. I have seen it done before using a 46 motor but you will find the model somewhat overpowered. I would suggest you use a governor on it....

Vince, If you use the 86T gear with the 30 pinion it will give you 9.56/1 ratio and it is awesome to say the least. Puts the Hyper right at 17500 where it needs to be.B.O.A.T. Break Out Another Thousand!

I use a TJ Pro to keep the head from overspeeding of course. But awsome power and never bogs all the lift you can need. Main reason is i cant afford 30% nitro fuel i have tried them and there great but at nearly £25 a gallon its costs too much. I remove the head shim and use 30 gearing its all the same to me.

I use the 9.56 ( 30 gears ) in my 50 with hyper and run the head at around 1800 rpm ( 17250 engine rpm governed ). The performance is good but no where near as good as running the head at 2000 rpm with 8.5 gears.
I started running the 9.56 gears after my 10t gear was worn down by the starter shaft bearing and I wanted to fly the next day so the gears were changed, But I got to like the slower headspeed so now I have changed the blades to 620mm ( titan boom fitted ) to give back some of the pop in certain manouvers. I haven't actually tested the 620's yet and don't have a chance until Sunday .
