Fury Extreme Blade Bolts
I was going through my machine the other day just checking various items for wear, rub, etc. and noticed that both blade bolts were slightly bent at the mid-span of each bolt. I was a bit surprised to see them bent considering the close tolerance and grade of bolts.

The plans call for replacement bolts (MA0082), which I just received 2 sets from Rick's. When I compare the MA0082 bolts to the stock bolts that the kit came with (which is about 3 years old now) the new bolts are considerably larger in diameter. They don't fit through the blade grip holes nor do they fit through the brass insert in the Radix 710 blades. Is there something that has changed with regards to these bolts, or even the blade grips? Can the Radix blades be run without the brass inserts?

Thanks for any help.

I think sometime recently they went from 4mm bolts to 5mm. I don't have much info beyond that, but I remember when looking around parts list for verious MAs while researching upgrades for my Fury, that the Stratus has 5mm bolts. I would think that to use them you'd need new blade grips, then pull the bushings out of your blades to get them to a 5mm hole.Nick Crego

Did they send you MA0082 or MA0082-1?

MA0082 - 4mm bolt
MA0082-1 - 5mm bolt

Drill your blade grips to 5mm. The 4mm bolts will continue to bend.

I specifically ordered the MA0082 simply because that is what is called out on the plans. Actually, the 5mm bolts wouldn't be a bad choice since the 4mm are going to just bend again. The Rick's website has the bolts listed as follows:

MA0082 - SHCS M4X35 BLADE PIVOT 12.9GR.HD (2)
MA0082-1 SHCS M5X45 BLADE BOLT (2)

The package was labeled 0082

Thanks guys

The 4mm bolts will bend the same amount each time and in the same interval due to flex in the blade grip. It's not dangerous, but most guys are happier using 5mm bolts. The bend to a certain point and go no further.

The reason we know it's the grip flex that causes the bolts to bend is that you can run 4mm bolts until the cows come home in a metal grip XC head, and the 4mm will stay perfectly straight.

I've just drilled mine out to take 5mm bolts. As said it's an easy job and worth it for the extra safety.

If you don't want to mess with drilling your own, (I wouldn't want to do it without a proper drill press.) you can buy part# 120-18.

It's a kit containing two grips drilled to 5mm and includes 5mm bolts. It's around $40.

The Radix blades come without that brass insert installed... So if you can get it out, yes the blades can be used without the insert.
