OS 70 Max SZ
Could anybody tll me where I can get an OS70 engine repaired in UK. The piston has blown a small hole in the centre of the top of the pisto, where the glow ignites. I dont know why this has happened? I thought it may be because it is inside a body and it was on a very hot day that it went!!! I would like to send off the engine to be repaired and have a service. If anyone knows where I can get this done I would be most grateful.
Thanks.

funny you should mention that, we have had 2 O.S. engines returned this week, OS50 hyper..blown piston and OS91 C-Spec PS blown piston. Both engines have been running on 16% heli fuel.

What fuel % are you using?

Ripmax is the distributor for O.S. motors to the UK shops, when ever we have any problems with O.S. engines we send them back and ripmax sort them.

As Matt said Ripmax or a Ripmax authorised dealer should be able to help you out but why are you blowing pistons? this is worrying!http://www.webstarts.com/micksscalehelicopters

I would say that you have a fuel mixture issue with this motor.http://www.webstarts.com/micksscalehelicopters

The OS70 was well known for doing this,
a quick search should reveal more,

the gen #1 piston was too weak so it was replaced with gen#2
this also had its problems so a gen#3 came out.

when i bought mine new it had a gen #2 piston.
i sent in in before it even saw fuel to have the gen #3 fitted.

speak to ripmax service centre,
it may be done under warrenty if you have a gen #1 or #2
( dont quote me on that as policies may have changed)
I know also that if the motor had the green stains of coolpower fuel
they wouldnt do warrenty work on it, again hopefully their policies have changed.

Irvines repaired f.o.c. my OS 70 and an OS50SXH following them suffering the piston hole thing . The 70 was originally fittted with a MK1 piston , this was replaced with the MK3 piston . On the 50SHX , they suggested that the problem was possibly caused by an overly restrictive muffler , this was fair comment as the muffler being used was a Yusa unit intended for the older 46FXH .
In both cases Irvine did repair my engines f.o.c. with just one question asked in the case of the 50 , and that was the "what fuel where you running question" . Obviously they want you to run "Formula Irvine" , but they were quite happy that I was using Supaglo . I don't know the current score , but in the past , if you were running fuels with less than 18% oil , they wouldn't carry out repairs under warranty .
At the end of the day , it gets dark .
