tail blade grips causing fatigue in CF tail blades
I have had this happen twice now... I put on my new CF tail blades, tighten my blade grips, and BOOM! After a little bit of basic aerobatics and FFF, I was hovering around and one of the tail blades went shooting off and then I have a great situation of "Holy Crap, lets see how good I can manage the gyroscopic laws of nature"... It seem that the grip's sharp edges on the inside of the grip tend to wear or eat at the blades. Has anyone else had this happen? I never had this happen until I put on the CF blades... Either way I need new CF main blades, CF tail blades, tailshaft, landing gear, spindle, flybar, main shaft and I will be back in the air. I think I will try to find some very thin washers to line the tail blades with.

Had this happen
Do you get a loud vib sound on spoolup like a industreal pager on a confrence desk??? i lost a CF tail blade that way. make sure that your bearings in the tail are set in good no play on tail shaft. just trying to give you somthing to work with.

hmmm?
i like to have my blades a littel snug. able to move them but not have them swing about, if i were to carry the helli around. id go with the washer idea. ive checked the posts but havent found any thing quite like your describe'n. have ya thought about file'n down the area one the blade grips to smooth them out??? let me know how this goes. if ya got a pic that would be great. good luck sorry to hear about the crash, just had my main gear strip in flight but give me a good reson to inspect every thing on a good rebuild.

And on a side note, I found out last Friday my unit deploys next march. Unfortunatly I dont know where as of yet, as some of the BDE has been assisting CENTCOM in Iraq and others in Afganastan. I'm part of the 66th AVN BDE (1-168th AVN)... We shall see.

Just curious if you are using a spacer with the CF blades. I have the same blade grips and just got the CF blades this weekend. I had to tighten the grips quite a bit more than with the stock blades. I'm wondering if that's causing the grips to dig into the blades on the end because of the angle (if that makes any sense).

I went to the hardware store and bought some washers that helped take out that "slop" and I will fly in the next day or two and see if they hold up. YES, I too had to tighten the grips up alot more than with the stock tail blades. I will post an update after I get some good hard flying in.
