R90 - YS 91 or OS 91?
I would like to have some opinions on which engine to use and why each one is liked or disliked.
This is a Raptor 90 that I will be building shortly and haven't decided on which engine yet. In my planes I have always leaned towards the 4-strokes.Also would like to know what size/type blades to run with these motors.
Thanks, David

I cant comment on the YS as dont have one, but i do have an OS91 C spec non pumped in the R90 SE and love it. Easy to tune and bags of power## Inteligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit...Common sense is not putting it in a fruit salad

And as a counter to the first post....

Had an OS 91 PS when I got my R90. I/We spent so much time tweaking and tuning, I had little time to FLY!

Swapped out for the YS, FIT AND FORGET!

In my HUMBLE opinion

YS91 - It's a monster, and drinks a lot of fuel. If you like power, it's there in this engine.

OS 91 SZ (pumped or non-pumped) is the way to go. The YS91 does not have as much power and only has a one year warranty. The OS engines have two year warranties and HobbyServices will bend over backwards to make sure you're happy if you send an OS in for service.

The Radix 690s or 710s are the perfect blade for your heli.

Don't forget to get a metal head if you go with the Raptor 90 Standard.

R90 - YS91
I just trashed my TT70 in my 60 and did the poor mans upgraded. Bought a YS, changed the pinion to an 11 tooth, kept the stock 93 main spur gear which makes it 8.45 and am keeping the stock 680's on it till I get used to it. As for the YS, one of 2 things makes it not run, lack of fuel or a bad glow plug. (gotta love being pumped) Set the needle rich enough where it smokes like crazy but has good power, then run 4 to 5 gallons through it and then start to lean it out. The power ur gonna get will be awesome from there on out. As for the OS, can't help ya. Good luck
I wondered why the Heli kept getting bigger....then it hit me!

Either engines are great.

If you run the OS91Z you'll probably be able to get away with 8:2 gear ratio.

If you run the YS91 you'll probably find the 8:45 gear set the best for it.

This is all depending on what you want to do... and what blades you plan on using.

My view as well. Out today, 30 degrees C here in cold and wet UK (hehe) and the YS just fired up first time and did what I paid for.

It is an awesome bit of kit. I can't talk for the new OS 91, but you have to wonder why they produced a new motor so quickly after the C-Spec. Did they KNOW it was not a product leader and had a rethink? OR did they come on this forum and notice all the threads about this topic?

I know you can get the C-Spec right if you send it to Omni, but WHY?

These motor's aren't cheap to start with....
