Trex 600 TAILGEAR FAILURE
Had the first failure tonight on the 600. The Tail Gear(plastic pulley) separated in flight. Almost lost it but was able to reduce power and get control of the tail the was spinning outta control. Got it on the ground a little hard but nothing was damaged at least from the landing.

Upon further investigation we discovered that the tail belt was extremely loose almost like it broke.. Similar problem in the past from the 450. Anyhow we then finally discovered that the pulley on the tail belt gear had separatedand the belt was spinning freely on the shaft.

To say the least we got lucky tonight.

Hopefully will have a new one soon. Or this wont be flying in the fun fly in 2weeks in SNO.

Here are some pics.

I've had more agro from tail output shafts than anything else on my T-Rexes, I'm surprised they've not got it right on the big brother. In the Picture it looks poor to start with.Phil

After all the fixes, i love my 450. i'm going to give it a few months and let you guys deal with all 600's problems. Then when Align comes out with V3, maybe i'll get one."Learning from mistakes gets expensive"

Let's be real here. All helicopters experience failures of some sort. My last Raptor 50 had a clutch blow apart in flight. I purchased a new clutch and the bearing was bad right out of the package. Had a belt fail on the Raptor before that one as well as another one way bearing. Also had a tail grip failure on one of my older Raptor 30's. How long has the Raptor been out?

All helis have issues especially new ones. Some complain about T-Rex swash's coming apart. I've had 4 T-Rex's and haven't had one part fail ever. My latest SE has been hammered and crashed numerous times and still I've never had a part fail.

For a completely new heli, I'd say Align doesn't have much to sort out at all. Look at any forum on this site and you will see failures of some type on all helicopters new and old.

Anybody that has has a heli can see the potential for those two pieces to separate.

Get real !

They shoul be lock tited, and perhaps a sleeve installed to prevent the separation in the first place.

My guess is they are a press fit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Listen guys Letsnot start bashing Align. There are always problems with new pruducts. Evenporsche has problems with their new vehicles. Even NASA with the space shuttle!!!. Lets face it there will be issues no matter what you have. This new Trex is no different but, This heli right out of the box flies excellent. Setup was perfect required no trim was balanced. Sure this is a problem and maybe align should of put a metal pulley there like they did on the little brother in V2. If they made it all perfect then this heli would be a 1000 or so. For the price this thing flies great.

With that said I will say I learn from mistakes. I will CA it when I get it this time. The gear comes press fitted on the shaft already and I thought the pulley was 1 piece not 2. Also I will put a collar on the bottom and the top of the pulley to make sure that it will not seperate again.

The point is still valid. MA had some issues in the tail gear box on the Fury's and ION X early on. These are $1300 helicopters and MA has been producing helis for a long time.

The 600 is going to have some issues pure and simple just like any other helicopter.

That was exactley my point I was trying to make. Thank you for being the one to realize how ridiculous it is.. Comparing NASA and Porsche to align was thrown out there to show that of course there is going to be issues. I think you get the point. Anyhow enough bashing on trex or others as usual it will get fixed or maybe it wont. Just something you guys need to be aware of if any of you are interested in one. And the possible fix.

Like anything else, if you buy the first release you normally are doing extended testing for the company without knowing.

I would think you would have been more upset, if that $3 dollar part cause a couple of $100 in damage, lucky you were able to land and it was nothing compared to what could have happened.

I'll be waiting for V2, just like others here, same thing with the original Rex, I waited for the 450XL to get released before I bought, same thing with Century Swift, I waited untill V2 before buying one.

When the crashes are small no ones cares, but if the crashed causes a couple of $100 in damages you would be singing a different tune.

Lucky you found this out and it didn't cost you tons. thanks for passing the info on and maybe saving someone else from having the same thing happen
