My last 2 laptops both got here 3 days BEFORE they said it would when I initially placed the order. I have bought 6 laptops and one desktop (for friends and family) and have been very pleased with them.

when you order a computer like you did from them they need the time to build it plus the thousands and thousands of other computers that they need to build and ship out ... like someone said before they give you a date based on what they have in stock and what components you chose to build the system and then they add a couple days to pad that .... but out of all the dells i've ever ordered they have always came early ...

plus its not like you live just around the corner

3,000 is a rip off. Im gona build another pc with these parts and it will be alot cheeper then what your paying and better performance.

Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition NVIDIA Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / Gigabit LAN / Wirelss 802.11b/g / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID=$214

T925-2068 :: Thermaltake Black Armor Full-Tower ATX=$154

X4 TSD-80H3 :: Hitachi / 80GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-300 /= $200

AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 / 1MB / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Processor with Fan = $399

Floppy and 2 dvd drives= $70

BFG GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual GPU / 1GB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card= $620

Corsair TWINX PRO Dual Channel 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P. Memory (2 x 1024MB=290

Totoal=$1948 with out screen

Much cheeper to do it your self, and this is with dual core and the latest memory and motherboard/cpu(AM2)

That computer that Cobra has planned out will run circles around anything dell could ever possibly make, including alienware. Nice choice on the case to. I have a friend who has the exact same one and not only is it very stylish but extremely quiet to.

The XPS 700 is a desktop.

you guys are lucky bc you know a lot about computers and enough to pick good components and build them ... the majority of people like this kid dont know how to buy all the individual parts and build a computer ... and maybe he doesnt have anyone to teach him so he has to pay a lot more for what he wants ... all in all as long as he's happy with it thats all that matters ... in a year from now as long as its still kicking ass he wont care how much he paid for it

True, but its a shame to just throw all the money away when he could put it towards college or a car. I was 15 when I learned about computers and I had nobody to teach me. I took the time and effort to teach myself what I needed to know. If you dont know how to learn your not going to get very far in life.

Very true. I just learnd very recentley and became absesed. I learnded when I was 14. When I was 14 I bought an Ailenware and it would go slow and have many problems. I would call tech suport constantley and became tierd of it. Thats when I started to learn how to fix, build, maintain, and understand my computer. Its not that hard at all, infact its alot easyer then rc helis. I have trouble with helicopters more than pc's. Im very slow in rc helis, im still with a blade cp and will soon get a mid sized E heli.Sammy

Seems like you guys that are giving torkboy grief about the order are forgetting that not everyone knows how to build a computer or has the time to do it. Sure, buying from a large manufacturer might be a compromise on speed but maybe not. More importantly, however, Dell will back up the system (meaning support) for 1 or more years (depending on what warranty they bought). Great support, OK support, whatever... still support. Could you guys do that? 6 months from now... 15 months from now... 22 months from now... Each time the customer calls you have to help. That costs money and consumes time for the seller. As I said, you can definitely build a PC with more performance than a large company such as Dell but not everyone has the time and know how to do it. Remember most people buy a PC to use as a tool for work - not buy a PC so they can work on them. I run a few hundred systems at my business and know I could build it cheaper and it'll perform better - sure! It's what comes after the sale I'm not willing to pay for.

Think in broader terms...

Torkboy, I think you (and your Dad) will be very happy with the system you got. Just be patient and it'll get there. Call the 800# on Dell's website and don't use all the prompts to get your order status (which is automated). If nothing else PM me your order # and name and I'll get the info for you. Hang in there...

ok first of all ya'll are comparing components to a complete pc. when you pile all those parts up you have a blank computer with no operating system or software and no warranty or tech support. I have done it both ways several times and for me the dell is great if you shop a little , last one I ordered would have cost me more just to buy the operating system and the software I needed than the complete pc with flatt panel cost...... I have six dells all going strong and never had a failure. relax and go fly , it will be worth your wait.Chuck

I know dell has good tech support, ive heard alot of good things about there pc's. My mom wants to get a lap top but dosent know which one she wants. I showed here the xps laptops, and she is intrested in it. Shes gona wait until vista is comeing out. Dells tech support is in india and it is kind of hard to understand what there saying some of the times. There very helpfull and know's how to solve almost evry problem.

"ok first of all ya'll are comparing components to a complete pc. when you pile all those parts up you have a blank computer with no operating system or software and no warranty or tech support."

K, no opperating system. Im sure evryone at sometime bought a pc ready to run with the os. You probebly still have the disk.

Warranty's dont mean a thing. I spent $300.00 just for my ailenware to have 3 year warrentys. You will get direct warrntys with the parts u bought from the manufacture. For example xfx graphic cards have double life-time warrntys and there FREE. For tech support. You get great technical support from the parts you have bougt, like asus, bfg....

The down sides are There not all bundled all in one package and you have to call indvdual tech support for each product.
