Just buy one ! I wouldn't think that the 9XII will be discontinued for a year or three .At the end of the day , it gets dark .

are the radios you are talking about the same as the JR 9303, if so, Its the best radio. SOOO easy to prgram, nice big screen and it has the scrolling selector which makes it soooo easy to program, I love this radio.

As far as I know , the only difference is that the 9XII has all digital trims , rather than 3 digital and a mechanical trim on throttle .

The 9XII and the 9303 are almost identical beasts. There are a few MINOR differences as stated, the 9303 is a 3+1 system whereas the 9XII is all 4 dig trims and therefore capable of being user mode changed.

As the 9303 comes as either a Heli or Aero option ( although they can be each be used for the other discipline) the switch type and layout varies.

I have the 9303 and a buddy has the 9XII. The 9303 is mode 2 (at least mine is)

They are the same pretty much but for the trims. Now I like the 3 in 1 system a lot better. When I help him fly his evo I hate the digital throttle trim as I like to have instant control of the throttle trim during start (you know if it's reving a bit much and you can get the trim down quickly whereas his you have to go "beep beep beep and it takes time) I like it for stopping the engine. I like to see at a glance where it is running instead of having to flick the trim to get the little trim position indicator coming up. Also I fly in Idle up almost continuously so don't worry about flight position trim but his one I set up with the trim fully up for flight which helps maintain the Rpm on descent. I could change the curves but it gets ugly down the bottom of the curve if the trim is neutral or below.
All in all I prefer a mechanical trim on throttle and digitals everywhere else.
The radio is easy to program and very capable for the money. I would say it is the easiest radio to set up I have ever owned. I have put a 2700 NIMH from hangtimes hobbies in it and get up to 9 hours run time. Don't have to charge for weeks! 30 model memory. Doesn't have 140 degree ccpm. Has plenty of mixing options. I have run 150 hours up on mine since new and so far not even a hint of a glitch. Remember JR also has the ability to run crystals within the whole range whereas others have to be tuned for the middle of the high band or the middle of the low band. Makes for a breeze to change at the field or get the synth module.
I think you would be very happy with either but consider how you like the throttle controlled regards trim.

I don't even own the JR9xII, but my mate does and loves it. He flys planes with it as well. I have looked at it but prefered the Futaba.

Each to their own - they r both great radios!
