Extra credit
Here is as close as I can remember for the extra credit on my math test. See what you come up with:

f(x)=12x^8+26x^7-5x^6+20x^4-6x^3-4x^2+3x+5

Solve for f(-5) using the remainder theorem.

f(x) = 12x8 + 26x7 + -5x6 + 20x4 + -6x3 + -4x2 + 3x + 5

Multiply f * x
fx = 12x8 + 26x7 + -5x6 + 20x4 + -6x3 + -4x2 + 3x + 5

Reorder the terms:
fx = 5 + 3x + -4x2 + -6x3 + 20x4 + -5x6 + 26x7 + 12x8

Solving
fx = 5 + 3x + -4x2 + -6x3 + 20x4 + -5x6 + 26x7 + 12x8

Solving for variable 'f'.

Move all terms containing f to the left, all other terms to the right.

Divide each side by 'x'.
f = 5x-1 + 3 + -4x + -6x2 + 20x3 + -5x5 + 26x6 + 12x7

Simplifying
f = 5x-1 + 3 + -4x + -6x2 + 20x3 + -5x5 + 26x6 + 12x7

Reorder the terms:
f = 3 + 5x-1 + -4x + -6x2 + 20x3 + -5x5 + 26x6 + 12x7

So, what's the answer?

I haven't tried it yet, but he GAVE you the way to solve it.

X=-5

So f(x) should equal a number NOT another equation....

Or did I sleep thru math class in college?

On a second thought,

IVAN, the Reminder Theorem does not make sense here..

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/remaindr.htm

Here is my attempt at solving this, without the Reminder Theorem.

f(x)=12x^8+26x^7-5x^6+20x^4-6x^3-4x^2+3x+5
x=-5

f(-5)=12(-5)^8+26(-5)^7-5(-5)^6+20(-5)^4-6(-5)^3-4(-5)^2+3(-5)+5

f(-5)=4687500-2031250-78125+12500+750-100-15+5

f(-5)=2,591,265

So what did I win?
