Rear canopy mounts broken on rapter 30
Hi There

I have recentlty crashed my raptor and the rear canopy mount has snapped off which will require a new frame. I have read somewhere that you can mod the mount with a Plastic screw, to allow the screw to break without snapping the mount off the frame. I have searched the posts but I am unable to find any info, could anybody guide me to the correct thread or tell me about the mod in more detail. Any pics would be great

Thanks for your help

Good idea as I bounced my Raptor 50 and the glass canopy ripped one of the mounting posts and frame apart. Luckily it left enough material to put a bolt through the hole. It would be nice to have a plastic bolt or something sacrificial there. If you have a lathe you could cut a groove around the post so that the ally would break first maybe like on the Caliber 30....

You can drill out the hole and attach the post with a screw from behind.

Plastic screws rarely break they just stretch and bend.

I think weakening the ally posts would be a bit hit and miss, but worth a go, I am never sure how much to weaken it by.
I am sure there was a post or two which showed a plastic bolt M3, with a nut on the same side as the post, and then the post screwed onto the plastic bolt. This is designed to snap and shear off in the crash. I am still searching but I can't find the post, and I am beggining to think it was posted else where.

happy flying in this great british weather

You can get plastic bolts from http://www.modelfixings.co.uk it doesn't matter if they dont snap, bending screws would be prefered to broken framesRe-entering the atmosphere...
