zenoah 260 engine grief
Has any one had problems running their 260 zenoh heli engine ?
I cant seem to find the right setting for a good run. the engine operates ok but runs rough and seems to surge between rich and lean , its enough to affect the gyro. I seem to be getting some kicking. does any one have any advice?

The biggest thing about this that I have read is the stock carb insulator and gaskets. There is reports that the insulator can warp which would allow air to leak by, thus causing the mixture to change and be hard to set consistantly. Also, the gaskets can reportedly not seal well and cause air leaks also.

I listened to other posters on this board and avoided the problems by purchasing one of the aluminum insulator with teflon gasket sets. The aluminum spacer will not warp, and the thick teflon gaskets seal effectively.

That may be the fix to your problem. If anything, it'll eliminate a potential problem later on with the stock plastic carb spacer.

Hi Mike

I just took my carb spacer out and put it on a nice flat surface and I could see the warpage on the engine side. I put some sticky backed 220 sand paper on a nice flat surface and sanded the engine side of the spacer until it was flat. I also did this some sanding the carb side and flatened it right out. On the crab side there is a raise area around the port, when you tighten the screws that hold the carb on it will warp the plastic away from the engine side when the spacer gets hot. In my humble opinion the carb and the spacer should both be flat. I used a thin skin of ultra copper silicon gasket sealer on both sides. Don't fill in the holes as this is your gas pump.

My surges and tail kicking have all but gone away. When I took the carb and spacer off the engine i could see there was not good contact. Try this and if you find it helps than order the aluminum one from http://www.z-rc.com/. This fix will work for a while and then maybe warp again?

As one who has had 2 years of problems with gassers, I will add that the G26 in stock form, has a piston that is heavier than it's counterweight. It will shake in stock form, often leaving you with foaming fuel, cracked frames, etc. My first bergen was set up with such an engine. The later version of the Hanson modified G26 have had good times and bad times, but they can be smooth and predictable.

The carb spacer Victor is discussing is worth the $$, certainly is.

Yep, I also had problems with a stock G26PUH in my Cuatro when I originally built it up. When tuned up it would still foam the fuel. Eventually, I ditched it last year for a 231 and the improvement in vibes was incredible.

I also run a 260RC in a Vario machine but this engine is vastly smoother than the PUH for reasons which have been stated in other threads on here.

The 231 had bags of power and I just can't see the stock 26 as being enough of an improvement over the 23 to justify the extra wear and tear on the air frame.
