When installing magnetic sensor , do you need to balance the cooling fan ?
I know it's preferable but if one doesn't have balancer, is there a way to know that the cooling fan is out of balance?

Does anyone that installed magnetic sensor and didn't balance encountered problems ?

No problems with one sensor. Later I have installed another, but in the reverse direction. With the main gear spinning so fast that little weight can create a lot of imbalance, so why not just use your extra magnet and put it in there. The imbalance though, with everything else slightly imbalanced may not be perceived by you because there's a lot of stuff moving around, but with balancing your blades it cuts down on problems that can build up if you don't take care of the balancing.I'm new, where is the reset button on this radio?

I didn't bother to balance my fan or put a pair of magnets in the two holes provided. My rationale was that everyone seems to think the OS 50 engine I'm using doesn't have enough counterweight on its crankshaft, so I bolted the fan to its hub with the magnet within
a few degrees of lining up with the crank counterweight.

This is a variation on what some plank fliers recommend with an out of balance prop. Instead of shaving the heavy blade, they say to set the heavy blade to line up with the crankshaft counterweight.

I use a Great Planes magnetic prop balancer. I also don't use a counter weight, I do as Colin suggested in your other identical thread, put the magnet opposite the piston at TDCAndy

buy an optical sensor and install a reflective tape and you wount have to worry about ballanceingThe first step in gettin help is admitting you have a problem ( yes I am addicted to helicopters )

Ho to tell reverse side of magnet?
Hi, I want to install the second magnet to ensure balance of fan but how do you tell which side is reversed for the second magnet installation. Tried checking magnet to see if one side did not attract metal but both do!

Hoe can you tell?

Thx

Ummm, try placing both magnets together - opposites attract . At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Thx Nivlek. So face which attracts with the other magnet goes facing the sensor on second magnet?

http://www.rchelisplus.com has csm counter weights, same weight as a magnet but not magnetic. Some governors won't work with dual magnets.

But as we said, it really doesn't need it.

The face which is attracted to the first magnet must face the sensor -unless , like Barracudahockey pointed out , it's one of the governors which won't work with dual magnets .At the end of the day , it gets dark .
