OS 91 SZ-H Hyper with "old" style OS bottom plate
Hey guys,

a friend of mine is installing an OS 91 SZ-H Hyper with "old" style OS bottom plate - could you remind us what exactly needs to be doen and weather he should use the small round spacer plate under the backplate or not ?

Please dont send us to buy the new plate, since this is what he decided on doing for now, no where to find the new plate locally.

thanks.

motor plate
yes i did read the post, but the old plate has larger hols for the screws. so that might let the motor move arround, i have both plates, and the plate for the new motors, do not use the ring, and it has a cut into it so the motor will sit lower in the motor plate it is a very little cut into the plate .006 of a inch. i did not read that u are in isreal, so i dont know how long it takes you to get parts their

From Eric Larson:

If you use the old C-spec bottom plate you need to put some bushing in there to allow for the difference in the 3mm vs 3.5 mm bolts used on the C-spec motor. You will need to get or make bushings 3mm id, 3.5mm od, and .100 tall. After that you still need to deal with the fact the vertical spacing is different. DO NOT USE the round spacer labeled OS! Just bolt the motor to the bottom plate with the bushings installed. Next you will need to compensate for the vertical difference by installing an additional .020” thick shim or washer between the motor and the fan. You will not have the OS drive washer (about .040”) and the additional washer/shim (about .020”) for a total space of .060”. This will allow your fan to clutch drive gap to be .020” to .030”.

If by some chance your gap is less than .015” you need to deal with that. Just remove or change the thickness of the washers between the fan and the motor front bearing to get the right fan to driver gap. If your gap is over .035” you should also adjust that gap by installing additional washers or shims between the fan and motor front bearings.

There will be some variance due to how the clutch driver was assembled and some washer tolerances. No big deal. Just get it close to the .020” - .030” area and you are fine.

I hope this helps.

Paul, that helps a lot - thanks !

i o have a question about the figures though.

how think is the OS round spacer that im removing in the equation ? im trying to add numbers here to see what i come up with since i read the SZ is 0.20" longer then the C-spec, and at the moment i have a perfect gap with the C-spec !

I read on another site that Eric Larson mentiones a 0.10" shim under the fan together with the stock OS fan shim, so im thinking about which size i hsould have my machinist make.

thanks for the help, this is the kind of info i was looking for !
