better off getting something a couple years old ... brand new cars are the biggest waste of money in the world ... plus for 20 grand out the door there isnt a whole lot of the stuff you're looking for ... go with something a couple years old and you'll be able to get something real nice

The Hyundai Tiburon is right about $20k brand new, with some options. Unfortunately, it's front wheel drive... which kind-of kills the fun of having a sports car.

I still want one.

But in the mean time, you could get a used BMW M3 from the year around 1998 or so. The body style "E36" is my favorite of the M3s. It corners like a Fury.

I've got one. You can't have it. It's almost paid off.

If you can find one, the Dodge Neon SRT-4 is a great little car for the money. It will take a baseline vett at the track. Not only that but it comes with a very nice 5-speed, LSD, race type suspension, STS, and all the other basic goodies. And with a Mopar stage III turbo kit, you can have yourself a 12 second car for under 30k brand new. You will have to buy one used since they dont make them anymore but im sure you can find one for a lot less then 20k.

What, a C2? I'm sorry, but that's a little hard to believe.

Well, there was a really good video of a 05 SRT vs a C2 but I lost it on my comp. However I do have a SRT vs C5 vid for those of you who still think of the neon as just a grocery getter.

You should be able to get a decent used WRX for under 20 grand. I got mine new for just over 20K and it does everything well. Also, being a Subaru it should last a long time. You can also find a used Camaro or Firebird (mullet not included) but I'm glad I don't have to pay those gas bills._______________________

Topher - I recently had a drag day and there were about 5 or 6 SRT-4's there - all modded.. NONE of them got below a 13.4 in the quarter.. They can not launch. They do NOT get off the line well.. They may be decent on the highway, but when it comes to a dig - they're poop... Plain and simple

I had a modded one call me out and I proceeded to show him my tail lights the whole way down the track. Not too impressive.

aggie07- I'd look for an 02 or 03 F-body - Camaro or Firebird (V8 only). The LS1's are very stout, very fun with the 6 speed, and can be had for less than $20k.

If that's not your bag - check out a used WRX. With a few mods they become semi-quick.

Like someone else said - new is a waste of $$.

Turbo, its not just SRTs but any FWD car isn't going to launch well. The ones I have seen run were pretty quik, one in the 12s with just mopar upgrades. I thought that since aggie was buying something brand new that it would be a daily driver as well. The SRT is the only car that I can think of that would be cheap but still get good milage. All subarus that are no less then 5 years old go for a lot higher then 20k around here. If its a weekend car then I would get a F-body as well or possibly a stang.

What's wrong with this?

http://www.saturn.com/saturn/vehicles/sky/overview.jsp

May not be a drag racer or fastes car out there, but it sure is cool looking and I bet it's a good "chick magnet"
And just a little over 20k.
