Raptor 90 Gyro
I have just ordered a new Raptor 90 and was wondering if my new GY401 will work. I had bought the gyro for another heli but never got it.
Just need to know if I can use it or do I sell it here.
Thanks, David
I love the sound of heli blades beating the air into submission!!!!! Happy AMA, IRCHA member!

I have a 401 w/9254 on my Raptor 90 and it holds well for basic flying(loops, rolls, flips, inverted) but for hard 3D you should go with the 601/611

Unless you are nearing competition level with your flying skills, there is no way you can outfly a 401. Yes the 611 is a "better" gyro, like the 14mz is a better radio than a 9C or 9Z. But unless your flying skills outpace the radio or gyro, the cost of the 611 and servo will feed your hungry 90 an additional 16 gallons or so.

I just finished a R60 with an OS70 for a friend and set it up with a 401/9254. My buddy is a pretty good stick, and cannot even come close the the limits on the 401.

If you have the cash, go for it. But I doubt you will be in any way disappointed in the 401

I'll second Jim. In your hands and my hands there is not any known manouver that the 401 will not do the job subject your tail mechanical setup is correct.

Yes I do have a 611 in my 90 but only for the blink factor. My 50 can still perform a tail slide or fly fast backward (upright and inverted) and the tail holds like a rock.

The only point that I can locate that the 611 is better than the 401 is the piro rate. The 611 can maintain the same piro rate no matter what you are doing. With the 401 in an extreme situation your piro rate might not be as consistent as with the 611.

I am running a G5000T/8700G combo on my 90 for now, as it is what I had around. My 60 runs a CSM 560SL/9254 combo and the 50's are both 401/9254. Of all, I like the 401's best. At some point I want to try a CSM 720 or a Futaba 611 for the big shipJim Senicka

You'll find the GY401 w/9254 is the most popular combo out there. Others will work as well.

Unless you've got a bunch of extra money that has no home and nothing to do... stick with the 401 untill you need to upgrade to something that works well with a really really fast frame servo. The 401 is very solid and trouble free, and will hold quite nicely (set up properly) on any action you can throw at it. Instead, spend your extra money on getting strong/fast servos for the cyclic on that bad boy, as you will find they are needed.

401 is a very reliable gyro but if you want some fancy metallic blings
or for display on airshows, we'll install the 601 or 611 they looked nice on the pictures.

both are good for 60-90size heli's. it's up to your personal preferrence.
