Tail vibration with Align tail rotor... any ideas?
I can't seem to get rid of some tail vibration in my TRex. The main and tail bearings are new, main and tail shafts are new, mains track fine, tails are Align carbon fiber (the $11 set), and I'm running about 3500 headspeed.

I notice that when I spin the mains by hand, the tail rotor wobbles slightly -- not because it's loose, but because it appears to not be perfectly perpendicular to the tail shaft. I'm wondering if the set screw is offsetting the rotor slightly, causing it to not seat evenly on one side. I've tried setting it in the flat spot of the shaft, but no difference. I have it tightened with the rotor hole flush with the end of the tail shaft. I've also tried different sets of tail blades, but no difference.

Any ideas?

Willy,

I just installed the main and tail bearings from brand new packages. I also spun the main and tail shafts in my cordless drill and they're perfectly true.

I do agree with your 5 of each philosophy, but only when it comes to gears.

Thanks,
Scott

When you have the tr blades off is their any vibration? What about when you have the mains off? How certain are you that either the mains or the tr blades are in fact perfectly balanced or very close to? Also as Willy said just because it is from a bag and was new does not mean it is perfect working condition, I had allot of items from Align new in bag that were no good, shafts, complete head, bearings mostly, and more.......Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

When I spin the mains by hand and watch the tail rotor, it has a very slight wobble. The tail shaft has zero wobble whatsoever, both with the rotor on or off. It's as plain as day, and just seems as if the rotor isn't seating on the shaft properly.

I suppose it could be tail bearings, since the weight of the rotor blades as each comes around could cause a weight shift that bad bearings wouldn't hold true. I just can't believe that Align's QC is so bad that they knowingly sell defective parts off the shelf.

What's the alternative? $150 German parts????

Funk, Also if at any time you bump the tail rotors it is possible to warp the screws retaining the grips causing the wobble, it happned to me, after the fix I must have tighteded the screw too much and the grip, blade and all shot off wizzing past my head at the speed of light! Carefull!!Ignorance is the absence of facts.Stupid is lacking the intellectual capacity to comprehend the fact
