Zenoah 231 running HOT
Ok we have a kind of heat wave here in Europe and my Predator gets really hot, to the point that I am afraid to fly. I do not have a temp gauge but it's hot, spit sizzles, frames are hot, clutch bell is hot etc. Question is am I supposed to rich the needles to get the temperature down - but I read that in summer you are supposed to lean the mixture because of thinner air? Maybe more oil or a change in headspeed or what? It flies well and the plug looks ok by the way but I am worried. Please help thanks.

Specs?
What oil are you running and in what ratios? Also what fuel are you using? More oil does cool the engine better and also protects against scoring the motor in extreme conditions. Richening will cool the engine also, but it all depends on how its running as if you richen so its running rough well that is no good either.

I am running on petrol with Castrol TTS fully synthetic 40:1. Needles are both a bit more open than 1 3/8 but less than 1 1/2. The plug is tan with some whitish on a side I presume the pipe side, it's a bit oily but clear not dark. I've looked at the cylinder through the carb hole it looks nice and shiny. So far I've burned ten gallons with this heli without a single problem. Tried again this late afternoon hoping the slightly fresher air would help it did not still hot like flying a meteor.

Sounds like you need to richen it
Whitish sounds lean in general. Also are you running a tuned pipe of some sort? You say pipe so I don't know what you mean. Needles could be different for tuned pipes than for mufflers (from standard settings of what most people use). Also try lower octane fuel if possible like regular and not super.

I have the Torpedo V2. Can find only super petrol here. Thanks I will try richening the needles. Both or the low needle only? Climbs out are fine.
