I´ll use Nicad. they are safer than Nimh at the end of the charge (Nimh dies hard and fast, Nicad has a longer dying process than nimh)

please, keep us informed about the test results. I guess what everyone want´s to know it´s: HOW MUCH POWER DOES IT HAS...??? how 3D capable it is...???

I think the other thread pretty much summed it up about the 3d aspect. It's not really a good 3d-er, or about as good as a 60 with a 60 in it.

Ignition Battery
I used an 1100mah igition battery based on the reccomendation of the igition manufacturer. It has plenty of power for 8-10 20 minute flights .

Not to sound rude, but I have no intentions of doing 3D with this helicopter. This is just going to be a sunday flyer if you will. Others have reported that it's not the best for 3D and i respect and value their opinion. I can let you know how it flies FFF and inverted. That's about it.

don´t worry, I´m still learning. and I have no intentions of doing hard 3d. I just want to have fun with it; FFF and inverted flights fits perfect in my list.

I just want to know how powerfull it is (I guess asking for 3D flight characteristics, it´s the most direct and easy way to find out about it)

Welp. I was going to fire it up a few minutes ago, but lost the inspiration after the storm we just had. It's wet, an humid outside. I almost forgot to mention HOT! Oh well. Unless something horrible happens between now and tomorrow, she's a go. I mixed up a fresh batch of fuel, put the batteries back on trickle. Oh yeah.. I'm excited!

Luis,

Read the whole thread and the others from those of us that have done this conversion already and you will have your answer. Its been asked and answered many times now how much power this engine has in a 60 and a 90 sized ship.

Trinitron,

1500mah is more than sufficient for a full day of flying, probably 2. Save the weight and go with the smaller pack. After a whole day at the field i would only put about 340mah back into my pack. 2700 is way overkill for the ignition.

I just ordered a 2/3A 1200 pack for it!! It'll be here next week sometime. But in the mean time I'm going to use the 4-cell 1500

Well........ That was about as uneventful as they come. My starter doesn't have the umph to turn this engine over at any rate of speed. Now i'm searching for a HD Starter. I probably won't find one locally....

Ok.. I got this thing running. It's LOUD! That's the first thing i noticed. Extremely loud. I'm using a JR 8103, and I ended up setting my throttle to follow an expo curve and not linear. I tried 0, INH , 50, INH , 100 linear, and man.... that's WAY too much. Leaving the same curve but with expo on is a lot better. Anyone have any throttle curve information based on what they use? The throttle servo is set at 100% both ends and it works perfectly. It's fully open at 100% and fully closed at 0%. I'm running -4, 6+, 9+ (i'm not too concerned about IU1 & IU2 right now. Also, when it spools up, there is little bit of shake, but as soon as it breaks ground the shake is completely GONE!

I'm running 32:1 (lawnboy ashless) with the High at 2.25 turns and the low at 1.5 turns. (after the first gallon is gone, I'm switching over to klotz synthetic)

I was able to get it running without the choke by simple squirting a little fuel into the crankcase by pulling the pulse line. Simple enough....

I'm going to order a geared started.

Man. This thing is torquey (is that a word ) I keep fiddling around with the throttle curve and the vibration I once had seemed to disappear. This is pretty cool. I'm still running it at 2.25h & 1.5l and this thing has got some balls. It's almost intimidating. The sound probably has a lot to do with it, but man I'm impressed so far. I"m going to see if I can find a dual pole switch so one switch turns the entire machine off instead of having two switches. That's my only complaint thus far, well second, because now i have to buy a man-sized starter.

Congradulations!!

Way to go, you are certainly determined to get her going.
Don't have my radio but the throttle curve in N as something like 5, 35,45,55, 100 with hovering at 3/4 stick.

I found the choke nor priming is needed unless its cool (<50F) and only then for the first start of the day.

What's you headspeed?

I'm done for today.. It's raining I did manage to get about 30 minutes of run time on it today. What did you end up with for a low needle setting. I'm at 1.5 still and it's really really rich. What about the high needle? I'm still at roughly 2. I had to back it down from 2.25 because it got to the point where it would cut off from loading up during the idle to hover transition. My pipe is right at 19.77mm out on the header, and that's probably where it's going to stay That anti-seize grease didn't do jack and she's up there pretty good. I smell like gas... And it stinks..... But i'm having fun!

Don't know the head speed. I'm going to use a buddies optical tach this weekend when we go flying. I do know that right now it's VERY low. If i had to pull a number out of my butt, I would say somewhere in the 1500's on the lower side. I'm going to try to bump it up some tomorrow and still maintain a pretty rich setting. I did flood it once today, quick fix..... This thing will be neat once i get it broken in. I've still got a little bit of gas left in the bird right now from the full tank i started with today... Considering this this is running rich it has amazing climb outs!!

I used a cordless 18v drill to start mine. Enough torque to turn the engine without problem but indeed the first 4-8 starts were MUCH harder then it got later.

Were you able to use a conventional starter later on? I was shocked that my Hobbico HD starter wouldn't turn it over. Hopefully i'll be able to try it again tomorrow. They're calling for rain, but we all know how that goes.
