This is indeed a sad loss for the North Notts club and also for the helicopter community!! Wherever we went Colin was always the character of the group and everybody knew him, there would be many occasion when you would see the likes of Bob Johnson and Simon Brown chatting to colin at the fly-in's or acknowledging him from the flight line at 3DMasters.

Many seem to remember Colin from the old Retford Heli Fly-in days, and this is what colin wanted to see again with the North Nott's Heli Fly-in. I always remeber Colin for being passionate about the very first North Nott's fly-in and what he wanted it to be, and i know it's grown far beyond his expectations and dreams.

Many will remeber Colin for his incredible sense of humor, in fact those who attended the very first North Notts Heli Fly-in will remember it well! (Belting out Hi-de-hi wake up calls at 6Am!!)

One of many fun memories i have of colin, as i'm sure many others have.

I'm sure the North Notts heli Fly-in will continue in memory of Colin.

Some quotes found around the web:

"Sad news today unfortunately, we just learned that Colin Smith lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, I had personally know Colin for a long time he was one of life?s true gentlemen and a real character.

He will be best know for his involvement with the North Notts club, their great Fly-in and previously the old Retford Fly-in

If you going to the North Notts Fly-in this weekend then raise a can for Colin, he would like that."

Bob Johnston

=============================

COLIN SMITH

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that long standing member Colin has passed away during the early hours of Saturday morning (2/11/06). Colin had been ill for a while and his condition deteriorated rapidly.

Our condolenses go to Colins family, members of North Notts Model Flying Club where Colin was a founder member and chairman and all of his friends.

Colin had a magical ability to find the good in anyone and to promote their strengths, never exploiting their weaknesses. He will be fondly remembered for his 'tramlining' stunt with his helicopter.

Rest in peace, you'll be sadly missed.

John Bridgett
(Chairman - Retford Model Flying Club)

Hi All

I am writing this to inform you all that due to the circumstances, Colin Smith’s family will be selling his entire helicopter fleet and equipment this weekend at the fly-in.

His items will be fairly priced for quick sale, all items that have not been sold by 2.30pm Sunday will be put up for auction, which will be held at 3.00pm by the NNFC Committee. Some of his fleet consists of a nearly new Raptor 50 se, 90SE, 60 etc etc….

All proceeds from these sales and auctions will go directly to Colin Smith’s estate.

Thanks

Back on topic.

I'll be taking my capacious tent to this year's fly-in - if anyone wants to share On the Sunday morning last time, I was like a butterfly emerging from it's Chrysalis. Seen body painting that's a looser fit.

Marquee is up (40*50 ft!). Ropes are out, PA is up, weather is booked, Helis are flying, first can of Fosters down 19:00! Cheers Stewart.

We have a small sheep problem. But there's a barbie tomorrow night, and we can offer tie-wraps and wellies if required later.

We'll herd the bas!!!ds up the M1 with or without shepheard if they're still there in the morning!

Well I enjoyed it

I'd like to thank Barrie, John, Tony, Ayrton and all the other irregular crew who helped-out. Plus all the regulars and their partners. Plus anyone else I forgot

Also respect to young Josh for some great inverted flying even though his heli (Raptor 50) is nearly as big as he is!

Thanks to all our sponsors for the brilliant raffle prizes, including Midland, Fast-Lad and Skyline.

Lastly to thank everyone who turned up and enjoyed themselves!

Best Flyin I have been too for Ages and Ages !!

Well done and thanks to the North-Notts Crew, Colin would be proud.

Standard of flying was amazing all round !

Not sure what happened at around Midday Sunday, cus up till that point it had been a relatively quiet flyin crash wise. Never seen so many crashes in an afternoon before ! And for a change I wasn't one of them

See you next year

Paul

I would like to second paul's point.. Best UK fly in I have been to for years!!... Fantastic job by all of the North Nots guy's. You really do know how to organise a fantastic fly in.. how about 2 next year.:-) It was great to see everyone again, the flying standard was higher than I have ever seen in the UK before just mindblowing.

Also a word of thanks to everyone who bought things from Fast Lad Performance at the weekend. Thank you !! we truly appreciate your support...

Well i was having a fantastic time until the afternoon (britflyer - i know what you are talking about there!..)

Dumb thumbed my synergy after finally getting it to fly right, (by having way too much fun!!) and then just as i was saying to myself "your not going to take both models home broken", the canopy lifts in flight on my rappie and i loose elevator..

Ah well, great flyin, fantastic weather and roll on loughbourgh next week
