VDO Tach?
What is the significants of setting the wheel diameter to 1667 on this setup? Does that happen to be the magic number to get kph to match the rpm? Just very curios about this setup.

OK guys,

The wheel size MUST be set to 1667. If you do the math you can figure out that the circumfrence of the 1667 wheel size will equate RPM though kilometers.

It's all in the math. It doesn't matter what size your heli is or the blade size. What we're doing here is determining the proper wheels size to make the pulse rate yield accurate RPMs.

Scott_MT... 1667 it is the magic number!

Good luck guys, the VDO Cytec 08 is awesome, it will tell you actual realtime RPM and hold the maximum RPM since the last reset and will even show an average RPM if desired. BTW_when it is standby mode it becomes a clock.

If you're a numbers freak you can even find the distance one blade has traveled during the flight, why you would need that I don't have a clue but it can be done.

I know that many of the "bike tachs" won't work with helis as they won't measure speeds above 999 RPM, this unit is the only one I can speak for and it will read up to 99999. Mine actually will read out 1/10 of a RPM in the max.

Here is a link to what we are talking about z11355. Someone else posted info about this in another topic alittle while ago. It's about how you can use a speedometer / tach used for bicycles on a heli to measure headspeed.

Goto this url http://www.rcheliweb.co.uk/ then click on the link that says "DIY Headspeed Tach" on the righthand side. Has all the info about it.

Atious

I ordered mine from a bicycle shop here in Canada called "Cycle Path". We had a hard time finding any reference to it but after going through all their dealer books we found the supplier that carried them. It's going to take about 4 weeks to get since I had to wait till they built up enough of an order to place with this supplier. Cost was going to be around $42.00 CND. I also ordered a spare mounting kit which includes the mount, sensor and magnet so I can put it on another heli and not have to remove everything.

I'm sure if you could find a large bicycle specific shop in your area they could order one for you. Or else you will jus have to order from the UK.

VDO.... where to get it.
I got mine from Trailbuzz.com

Cost about $32.00 including shipping after it was converted to US dollars and billed to my credit card.
