off colored parts...
billm,
It's not JB without the "PINK"

HELIBRITE,
Nice heli dude, but I hope you weren't as close to that tree as it looks. It looks pretty close. I figure it wasn't or we'd be hearing the cries of a anguished heli owner after all that work and crashing it.

Sunday flying...'I get to go flying, I get to go flying'. Weather here tomorrow will be sunny and a warm 68 degrees. Holy Crap! How'd that happen!!! Can't let it get away from me so I'm charging up everything and going out in the morning. Hope we have a good winter and maybe I'll get in enough real flying that I won't have to settle for the Sim style flying. I can't wait.

Later...

A good day flying is better...
than any other day on the planet. I managed to get in several good flights today on the Tiger and didn't break anything nor did I have any issues either. Just a good day flying. I also got the guts today to try a flip. Nose in flip, back to nose in. Perfecto! Tried it again and again, five or six. All were perfect (IMHO at least). Yes I did them three dumb thumbs high, but what can you expect from a rank amature 3d'er. All is good in life now as I've conquered that demon. I also had a good session of nose in hovering today. I think (please god!) I've gotten the Tiger trimmed out perfect as I was able to hold it in a hover at about 6 feet high for well over three minutes without having to stick twiddle all the time. I actually had it stationary for 10 to 15 seconds at a time hands free. That felt really good. I also didn't feel I had to bail out at any second either. The Tiger is starting to feel the way I think it should. All I need now is some more real stick time an I'll have this thing down. That grin was really big today. Man!, my jaws hurt...

I painted it a couple of weeks ago using the following method.
(This was on an already used and dinged up canopy)

Removed stickers and windscreen.
Cleaned with alcohol to remove and sticker residue.
Washed canopy in warm soapy water...twice
Sanded with 300 grit sandpaper.
& Sanded with 300 grit sandpaper again.
Washed again.
Flamed surface with torch lightly, not enough to get hot or distort..should have gotten slightly warm. <<Not sure what this step did but I read it on RunRyder so it must be worthwhile >>
Two coats Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter
Top coats of Krylon Fluorescent Yellow and Orange
Cleared with Duplicolor clear, 3 coats
Vinyl stickers from local sign shop

Guess I have about 15 flights and several times taking canopy on off (installing and programming new rx)..and its holding up well.
A couple of chips but other than that its good. Definitely can see it now..
I'm not expecting this to hold up long term but for $10 and some time, it sure is nice to be able to see the attitude of the heli at all times.

I uploaded some more pics in my Gallery this morning.

I was just going to ask how you went about the paint job and if you used the flame treatment and you posted it all here. Great! Gives me some motivation to do the same. I painted my Raptor canopy in a similar fashion and it's held up "OK" but not great. I used the plastic paint (primer first) that's supposed to stick to plastic bumpers. I'll have to give the duplicolor paints a try.

Yeah, the weather was great Sunday. The only bad part of yesterday was that the day had to end to soon. I was packed up and headed home by 5:00pm. I guess 5 hours was enough for one day. To bad the last day out was a month ago. Ahh, the lazy hazy day's of summer are all but gone this year.

P.S. - I'm still trying to get a group of flyer's to come down to your area and do some flying. Our club and another have joined forces to make up a pretty good group of fliers. Hopefully by next April or May we'll have some time to come your way. By then I should be a 3D'ing fool...well the 'fool' part anyway.

The real trick here is the flame step, folks. Do it to make decals stick better, and definitely do it to make paint stick better. This works!

Well, it is Thursday night and I am stuck in Calgary at the hospital typing this on my PPC. What a PITA - the PPC not the hospital. lol

Ended up having a rejection episode with one of my transplants (pancreas). So, no flying, no painting, no working on my helis.

Hope everyone else gets out flying this weekend! It looked like it was supposed to be a nice weekend for us too.

Wish me luck that I'm out of here soon, and burn a tank or two for me.

Cheers, Shayne

Thanks guys. It's not really that big a deal. First rejection in 4 years. At least I had my iPaq with me so I'm able to read about helis and check out the Hot Girls Thread.

At least I talked them out of the catheter.

Sorry to hear that Bill. Sounds like you should have been 4 tricks high instead of 3. Did you take out the main blades? I hate it when that happens.

Too foggy to fly here today. I worked on my Hughes. Just dry fitting the glazing now and putting the tail rotors on. May be ready for a short hop tomorrow if the weather improves. Still waiting for one nav light to complete that part.

Cheers, Shayne

Going out now...
Even though it's cold right now, by noon it should be in the 50's here. Hope to get in at least three flights on the Tiger and maybe that many on my Hawk. Only going to have about two hours to do any real flying, because as the sun sets it's getting cold here quickly and I need to get back home to do some more work on my kitchen.

P.S. - I've reset the Tigers pitch settings again and now I'm getting a full +11/-11 degrees of pitch on the rotor head. Should be interesting today if all goes well.

Beating a dead horse here...
Seems we've lost most of the Tiger fliers to the Pantera forum (that's OK!). Got out this morning around 11:30am and proceeded to beat that horse! Got in at least 8 nose in flips (they seem to be easier to me) and some stall turn spins flips (no name that I can come up with). All I can say at this point is, "DAMN!!!" this thing fly's great. At first the Tiger had me a little intimidated. The more I fly it the better I like it. The good is starting to come out with me doing more on the Sim before trying on the real Tiger and it showing. Other than the Tiger the Sim I bought is the next best RC item I've invested in. OBTW, the Hawk didn't fly as it's got some thing wrong that I couldn't track down at the field, so the Tiger got all my attention.

The +11/-11 degree pitch settings seem to be right on. Only after getting the Tiger inverted and giving it full negative pitch to flip it back out does it give any sign of loading up and even that's not to bad. Wish I had a tach as I'm not sure what HS I'm running although it's pretty high.
