Did alot of scouring this forum and finally ordered a new VE. I have read about the wobble and the astro motor problems and such. But have also ordered the newer finned version astro 20 motor and speed control combo as well as 3 eight cell 3300 mill battery packs.
I thought about a kontronics motor but after comparing the specs on the 2 the k was 10 mm wider. Setup will be astro motor , 8 cell batts for the time being, futaba 9202 servos, 502 gyro.
Am I missing or forgetting anything.

Recieved the VE yesterday morning and by 1AM she was almost ready to test fly. This morning was spent going over everything again and the trying it out. Stock motor and speed control eight cell battery and 3 cell lipo. Only adjustments that had to be made was lengthening the tail rotor pushrod one turn and one click up elevator. Then as the batteries started to run down she started the famed VE dance.. Came in flipped the head and same thing. Overall I love the little heli. Trimming it out took place in about a 15 to 20 mph wind but she was solid.
Open to recomendations for head problem. I have read this person uses this and thast one that but what is best overall.

Hi Aubie. Glad you like it.

Every Voyager I've seen gets "The Wobble" when the head slows down. I don't think it's caused by anything in the head because it still happens on Voyagers with other makes of head. It's not a problem as long as you don't let the revs get too low.

Finally recieved my 8 cell pack and played with the VE again last night, thank goodeness for security lights, and noticed a bit of tail wag on it. Going to do the raptor tail upgrade and see how that works. Also going to install the new astro 020 and see what happens. As far as the wobble I was talking to a friend of mine about it and we finally decided it was a built in timer that JR didnt bother to tell anyone about, built in wobble timer

Finally got in some flying time today with the VE but ran into a problem. Only got 4 minutes flight time out of one pack. Setup is astro 020 new version motor, cc 65 amp speed control, 8 cell nimh pack and stock 15 tooth pinion. What do I need to change?

4 minutes is fine.

Mine has a Hacker C40-8L and a 10-cell NiCAD 1700 pack, and this is good for 4:30 exactly, then the rotor speed can be heard decreasing just a bit (from 1800 rpm), leaving 30-45 seconds for a nice landing. No wobbles thru 5 minutes.

If you go Hacker C40-8L and 3S4P LiPo, you can fly for a good while (14 minutes or so).

If you ever plan to have a rotor strike you will want to upgrade the intermediate gear to the delron unit.

If you put a longer tail on her, you will have a c.g. problem

Have fun!

This is whats puzzling me. I put the battery back on charge and it only took 826 mill. The pack was not even warm like it should be after the 4 minutes of flying.

4 minutes and you put back less then a 1000mah, something isn't right.

Have you cycled the new NiMh packs?

what headspeed are you running and was this done on a brushed or BL setup?

-= I know there is Money in RC helicopters. I put it there=-

The pack was cycled 4 times before use. Motor is an astro 020 brushless running the stock 15 tooth pinion. Checked the voltage on the pack this morning and it read 10.96 volts fully charged.
I have no way of accurately checking the head speed but it seemed a little bit low.

Try a 17 tooth pinion to boost the head speed and a 3cell 2pack 4500 lipo to extend your flite times. If you want to stay with nihm try the 10 cell packs but then you are only $30 away from the 3c2p lipo.

Hi All, I also have the astro 020 with a CC 45 controller and 15 pinion, JR servos, Jr reciver and JR 378-x radio. I am using 10 cell 3600 batteries and no problems so far. My Voyager is stock I've changed or added nothing and I may upgrade as parts are broken in a crash, but for the past 3 months I've had no problem/crashes, and the helicopter is rock sold. I only fly sport no 3D so my setup is perfect. Also the extra weight from the batteries is not always bad it makes the helicopter more stable even in winds, and we have some wind on this mountain. What i've found in the past with other helicopters I own if you start to upgrade just to upgrade you can spend some serious money. Just enjoy the helicopter and live to fly and fly to live.
