I'm starting to set up my 3d today , and thought it would be much easyier to set up and fly as a fp ..IF possable !!

I wanted to ask what would (or)can I set up that way ? then later as I get used to hovering and basic stuff do the mixing .

Can I set the head servos to zero travel with a given amount of pitch pre set ? ,,But this would limit to hover in place only ?

How would or could I get to lateral motion ? Could I just mix to two rear head servos to work together ? Possably use a mix switch to cut in and out .

Reguarless I thought i make a solid base to fasten the heli to for trial runs ups , then a four point tie down to limit it to a inch or two off the pad

Maybe I just need to dive in to the mixing &$#%
Thanks already

I would personally not start out with fixed pitch. If you really want to get into Heli's I highly recommend a simulator. Even if you don't have the money, find it. The Realflight G3 or Reflex XTR simulator are close to $200. With enough practice you can not only hover on your first day, but do much more. Put your heli together the right way and use some training gear and you'll be fine. Just make sure you have someone with you who is experienced (this is a must).
Let me know if you need any help with set up.
Also, which heli do you have?

re
I too felt I needed a sim, so I bought a used G2 and have been practicing .I can hover fairly well and do basic close in manuvers.
The heli is a century elite 3 d pro .belt drive ,,theres a fellow here that sold it to me used in great condition ,,with tons of parts ,lotsa bling .

I just wanted to see if there was a way to get it up and running quick .,for basic stuff ,,Have the servos in and was getting ready to do the head mix ,,,when I thought there might be a way to set up to hover .But now that I reviewed the idea ,,, I don't think it possible with a swash plate... oh well
thanks for the offer to help with set up ,,IM sure I'll be back with questions .. rt

I would guess you could just set a flat pitch curve in your tx and then just go off your throttle curve for power, but this wouldn't be any less difficult than just setting it up the right way to being with, and likely wouldn't make the heli any easier to fly.
