Well today..i just blew both these things...on my brand new Align T-rex SE (version 2.blue gear)... only had about 4 flights...

what happened was, I went into idle up...flew around nice..accidentalyl flipped throttle hold... heli came down and landed fine...sorta auto'd itself... then i tried to spool again...after disabling throttle hold...

the trex did not spool...then i forgot, oh yea i'm in idle up...once i switched back to normal... i spooled it up again...it spooled about 2-3 blade revolutions...then POP...then smoke came out.......

upon inspection, it appears that the motor itself "jammed"...I dropped the motor and attempted to rotate it by hand...every few rotations, it jams up....

i suspect what happened was that the motor jammed up....as I applied more power to the motor from the esc...the esc threw in the towel and burned out...along with my motor...

i think i see some black burnt coils in the motor... and it does smell a little burnt... but the esc did smell really burnt.

anyone share similar experiences?? how can i prevent this again?

fwiw..

Two things seem to cause this..

I destroyed one by not noticing I had dropped a washer into the motor...
The second was running the esc at high timing..
I've seen a few issues of overheating caused by pinion mesh being too tight..

Align 430L motor is efficient
I fly my TRex XL with the Align 35A and Align 430L motor. This combination runs cool for long flights. I hover at 6.5A this gives me 15 minute flights on TP2100.

The 430L is a great motor for price. If you run that motor hard with CC or Align 35 AMP ESC's and HS56 servos, you will be on edge in terms of AMP draw and heat. I know this from experience. Probably get flamed for saying that, as I know many use this equipment without problems. But even CC tech folks will tell you that to avoid risk of meltdown during high throttle surges, best to use separate BEC with this setup.

OH yea, i forgot to post my setup:

Align T-REX SE CDE (2nd edition)
Align 430L 3550KV Motor
Align BL35G 35A ESC
Futaba GY401

With the 430L and HS56 servos, suggest you get separate BEC with that ESC. I suspect otherwise with hard use you will again experience heat problem!

Thats my suggestion. Since going to Medusa BEC, all my stuff runs very cool and smooth! No glithes or hicups. Positive by-product, with 6V BEC, servos give handling a much crisper feel.
