How do I set up my REX, so that the only thing that keeps me from doing insane 3D is my ability. For example,, I want to do super tight rolls and loops and have awesome power.

Don't knock the bladecp. Great heli that is capable of much more than most pilots. That heli makes new pilots into smooth pilots. It can teach all the way through inverted flight. It is a great $220 heli.

As for the hot setup:

evo20 3s 1800mah batteries (dont have em but want em)
gy401 or better (im doing great with a 240 but it isnt good for backward flight)
Kontronic speed control (I am using the cc35 with no issues though)
Motor is hard to say (most will swear by the Aon 3500, I am using the Mega 16/15/3 but it does get hot)

If you want even better performance then go with a 4s setup.

Save some money and run a JGF 450TH on a 13 tooth pinon. Use good batteries and go have fun!

LMAO, or maybe a Hirobo Lama XRB.

There will be many opinions on which motor is the current champ. I'm running a Neu 1107/2Y on 3S and am happy with the power. It sucks back the juice though, with a 13T pinion I limit my flights to 6 minutes (TP 2100PL).

I guess if you really want to be 100% sure that the only thing stopping you is your abilty, set up your heli like Jason Krause.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I don't like upgrading, so I try to buy a powerful setup from the get go, that way I can never outgrow the machine. If you plan on going to 3D, then I say there is nothing wrong with a powerful setup from the get go. You'll be used to it when you're ready but remember to not try anything outside of your ability despite the power the machine has. Extreme power is useless unless you know how to control it. I just made a thread about my 450TH and a 4s setup. I know there are more powerful setups, but I'm very happy with this.
