SO, I hate to post and run, but I need to vent and I need to goto dinner. But here it is:

Am I the only one who doesn't like building or fixing things.
For example I got G2 as a birthday present from my wife one year and "LOVED" it, and I got hooked on Helos since I fly helos for a living. So for christmas she got me a Hawk Sport, with everything needed to get me started in the Hobby. So even though I hated it, I took the time, not enough it turned out, an built it. I even got crazy and painted it.
Thanks to G2 I was able to hover in my back yard. But one day I Hit the idle up and drilled it into the ground. Went inside and ordered the parts need. So I fixed it. This crash helped ID a mistake in my original build. So fix, crash, order, build, Happens a few time, until i finally smoked the motor, long story.

So for xmas this year I recieved a Blade CP and was excited. Already set up, already test flown, My dream Helo. Then I get the bug and decide to order super landing gear. Was ready to choke myself putting it together. Had to take it apart once because I'm a knucklehead, bent the antenna tube, but now I'm done and it's together.

So now off I go to dinner fustrated with the process.
So my question is

Am I the only person who HATES the building part of this hobby?
And, can I survive in the hobby in spite of this revelation?

Now, I'm off to dinner and am looking forward to the replies.

I'm afarid you are in the monority.

Most of us like to tinker with these machines and for many including myself is a labor of love.

Building and re-building is a way of life for these things.

Just hang in there and you'll make it.

yep me thinks your the minority as well, I typically spend 90% of my time building stuff and 10% flying (that also has something to do with doing most of my work at night though...)

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

I absolutely love the building, tinkering, and tuning of helis.

The routine maintenance that goes with RC car racing is what is no fun for me. 4 hours of labor to rebuild a filthy and trashed car after a whole day of racing that didn't include an hour of actual driving sucked week after week.

I race RC cars and take it very seriousely, but I have to agree with you to a point. Building them sucks. I hate the process as I have to be very meticulous. ONce they are built-I hate to tear them down to replace anything that needs teardown of the main chassis.

BUT-having said that, I build them right and with utmost care the first time and taking them apart means setting them back-up.

The Raptor 30 I just built was my first heli and it was fun and a challenge and tomorrow I take it to an experienced pilot for final trimming out. I look forward to see how I did.

Now-later this year and next year when I build another Trex and then my Sceadu 50 evo I get the feeling I will build them with care, but wish that they were already built!!!

I feel for you, but i'd have to say most are hobbyist in the purest form. Meaning they relish the whole experience, especially building them. I build RC cars so I can race them and I suppose I will build better helis to do more 3d with............someday!!

The tinkering-that I like!!!

I race RC cars and take it very seriously
I did too and maybe that was the problem. Once I had my control arm pivot shafts and suspension balls all polished like mirrors so my suspension would dangle like a grandfather clock pendulum, I had to disassemble the entire car after every days of racing to clean it spotless and set it all back up.

Heck, even when mine flys great I try and find ways to make it better!

I have 2 constantly remind myself if it isn't broke don't fix it!

I also would say you are the minority among us.

I have come to a point in the Hobby, I used to LOVE building, Now I hate it sometimes, when the Dermel comes out is when I get Pissed off. I love flying,. I guess I spend about 75% tunning these things and 10%( when flying right) flying and 15% on this sight and sim stuff.

I'm in that group... It is not that I dislike building so much, I just am not good at it. I have a good friend that goes over my heli after I build it. I pretty much have my Raptor down, I can figure out most on it. I built a T-Rex SE last week, And I thought I had it kind of close until I got a call from my friend.. His first words were "Did you even look at the directions??" And I thought it was prettty close.

Now a plane, I can make anything fly! Here is my proof!

I love to build anything i can find. If i can't fly i will take my heli apart to see if anything is wrong with it. I also have been adding some cool novalty items to my hawk(can be seen on my gallery). I am so bored most of the time because i don't have enough to do on my helis. I also got a blade CP, yeah its nice that its all setup but for me the joy of a new heli is looking at all the parts and putting it together.

I am just getting into the hobby and picked up a box of parts that was to be a Baron 20. I bought it at an auction for a low price so I could leaarn how these things go together. I have learned alot and have really enjoyed puting it together.

This is the part of the R/C hobby I enjoy. I have flown fixed wings for about 20 years and have fixed them more times than I can count.

I got into helos not only because I have wanted to for years, but also I wanted someting to tinker with.

I do agree that the price$ are way too high.

actually there is one thing I hate....Setting up the radio.... I like the bood and guts of the build, tinkering, fabrication and good ol' American ingenuity but I HATE programming radios, I have a New assembled ready to go blinged out 90 and a New never flown ready to go EVO that have sat for MONTHS because A) I dont have the time to set it up/program, and B) Because I hate it so much I try not to do it which means I can do it but it takes me ALOT of time to do it...

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

If you build it right, the radio set up takes the less amount of time, it took my Vibe about 30min in the radio. Set it up on the bench at zero and rule of 90. There is not much to radio set-up. Thats what I was tought on how to build. I have never had an issue. But I used the 9303, 9x and 8103 EASY stuff. I like to keep it simple.
