I had some high end vibration in my Tiger and I attributed it to a magnet I put on the main gear (to make a tach with a cycle computer). Anyway, I decided not to go that route and tonight I decided to replace the gear. I'm assuming there is no gear mesh to worry about? I see no way to adjust for backlash/mesh and don't see anything in the manual regarding it. The gear feels a little tight where the other one felt looser.

Can someone verify that there is no gear mesh process that has to take place between the pinion and the main gear. Does it wear in with use?

Thanks, Shayne

You are correct, there isn't any adjustment. The Tiger is setup for a specific pinion and main gear so there really isn't a need to adjust it. Double check your main gear and make sure all the teeth are ok and nothing looks damaged, it should mesh just fine.

When you turn the head does it feel like anything is binding or is it just a very snug fit?

After a tank or so it should run in and be fine.

Thanks Clyde. That's what I figured but thought I'd ask the pros. There are no tooth problems and it's just a snugger fit than the old one. I'll run a tank and then check again. There's no binding so all should be okay.

Thanks, Shayne

Now there is something I love about these fixed gear designs. They are manufactured to fit. No adjustment, no flexing... trouble free.

Hey Mike,
One of our Tigers has about 8 gallons on it with original pinion and main gear, still as tight as the first day out. I really like the way you can just pop in the engine tighten everything up and go fly.

Just went out and put two tanks through it. Gear is nice and smooth and the vibe is gone. Happy, happy, joy, joy! Yep, you gotta love the bolt 'n' go.
