We had a great evening tonight as we were able to get a couple of flights in before the big snow storm hits us.

As I was hovering, I had a sudden loss of power with the motor making a strange sound that I have never heard before. As my Rex came down to the ground, you could hear the high pitch whine of a motor, but the rotor was winding down. As I pulled the throttle all the way down, the motor noise stopped. Low and behold, I popped my pinion gear. I actually found it stuck on some double sided tape that holds the ESC in place, lucky me. I cleaned the motor shaft and pinion gear, then put it back in place with some green locktite. Has anyone else had this problem? I am not the orginal owner of this bird but this has been the first problem I have had. I am lucky that it happened in a hover and not in FF. Howie

Its something to definitely check as it happened to me also. My pinion did not pop off, but worked its way down the shaft to where it was barely engaged with the gear. What brought my attention to this was that it looked like it was snowing... the pinion was stripping small pieces of the gear where it looked like snow flakes. I'm the second owner of this bird, and it was improperly assembled (did not use locktite) by the previous owner. I reinstalled the pinion with blue locktite.
