I wanna do the DD tail upgrade. I have the GWS tail housing/fin, EDP-50H motor, and heatsink. I am confused about what prop to use. Some say the 4530 works great, some say it's too big and use the 4025. Still others say use a 3"! Help!!!! Should I keep the stock tail housing and just modify for the EDP-50H motor?

You can use the stock tail housing with very little modification. Are you just planning to change the motor out and leave everything else the same?

I'm currently using the stock housing with the DD tail and prop. I got tired of replacing the flimsy fin.

I am wanting to use the bigger motor and go direct drive. What prop and adapter are you using? How's the balance using the stock housing with the bigger motor? I don't have to use the fin.

Got a part number for the drive shaft set? My LHS has the prop but not the prop/shaft as a set. Does the motor handle the 4530 prop ok?

Yes it handles it great, now I can control the tail, the tail doesn't control me..... It's almost like having a HH gyro it's very stable in a hover....

I agree with slider46 I have the DD conversion and it really provides a ton of authority making it easier to control the tail. The only thing better would be seperates with an HH gyro IMHO

Good Luck
Russ

Thanks Russ. This is Addictive! Blade CP AEK 7CHP and a Shogun V2 now

well, i'm convinced to go ahead with it. Can I get the specific parts used? My LHS has the motors, props, heat sinks, etc. I just need to know what combination to get. The DD kit comes with the tail prop/shaft kit (p/n GWS H001-FD5002-030B).My LHS has the -030A, what is the difference? I think i will just ream out the stock tail housing and put the new motor in it. Just curious if it can be balanced afterwards.

The motor will slide right into the stock housing, but the dd tail mod is so you have a pusher type prop blowing air over the motor while flying... So the prop will be on the left side of the heli looking from the tail....

so i need to scrap the stock housing and go ahead with the GWS housing/fin combo unit. I am goin to use heat and CA softener to get the stocker off the boom. Now, the only question I have is which prop to use.

It comes with the 4530 prop which works great for this heli. I'm waiting for the tail motor to go on my v3 so I can swap that over to DD too. I also put the heavy duty struts on the blade which gives you about 1" off the ground with the tail skeg... That only 11.99 at heli direct...

You don't have to use the GWS tail hub. You can use the stock hub. The GWS tail fin is extremely flimsy and breaks very easy. You will end up replacing a lot of them. I finally decided to use the stock hub and it works great. I now run my prop on the right side. It still pulls air over the motor and when the prop comes loose from the shaft (and it will) it won't just fly off.

I bought some 4540 props and I think the pitch might be a little much for the motor. It got a little warmer than normal but it ran a little slower.
