I've heard that running 4s makes your motor and battery run cooler. Higher voltage and less amp draw therefore less heat. I have an SBEC, so running 4s would be no problem. My question is would it work on a 400DH motor with 8 tooth. Or will my heli just explode with too high of a head speed.

Some people are running 4s lipo with 1105/1107 Neu motor on their trex and reporting that their battery and motor are barely warm.

If you run 4s you also need to get a motor with a lower KV rating to suit the headspeed youi want. For instance, if you ran 4s on a 4200kv motor 1: the head may explode due to ridiculous speed or 2:the motor will not like you very much and fry itself in disgust lol
You need a KV rating under 3000 to run 4s.

For the love of the hobby

Before you totally give up on the idea, see if you can figure out how to get the gearing to work. Obviously a 6T pinion isn't going to work, but how about 2 stage gearing?

"The box" is used on big electric helis to overcome the problems of needing impossibly small pinions. Weight might be an issue, but it sounds like it would be cool to give it a try... (I dont mean to use "the box" on your Shogun that would be way too big/heavy, but see if you can find a small gearbox- maybe one made for planes?)

I see your point and that would be a great project though. But for me that would be to complicated. I think a Neu motor or a motor with less kv would be less of a work to put together.
