Why don't the internal BEC's use the same method as the external?
In the case of the Kontroniks 40-6-18 I believe they do.

It probably does add a little to the size, but not that much. The parts cost difference is pretty small at wholesale pricing.

It will be nice when they all have this setup:

wattsuprc.com.au/product_detail.asp?pid=TA0055

Just needs a gov. that works like the Jazz.

You pull red (hot) wire from ESC connector so that it provides no power, only signal to receiver. You wire red/blk leads from BEC to battery leads from ESC. BEC is plugged into any receiver channel to provided power. Use empty slot if available, piggy back with any other channel lead, using y connector, if all channels in use!

Your BEC should have two wires that need to go to the receiver. + volts and ground.

If you're using a GY401 gyro (or any other gyro with a gain plug that has only one wire in it) put the two BEC wires into the two empty pins of the gain connector. The center lead of the three wire gain connector is + volts, the outer unused pin is ground. No extra plug or Y-harness needed in this situation.

Of course you could also tie the ground wire in the three pin connector coming from the ESC to the ground wire in the BEC, then plug the + volts wire from the BEC into the connector from the ESC that goes to the RX, into the hole where you removed the ESC's + volts wire. Snip off or otherwise isolate the red wire from the ESC.

Talking to the supplier of the Ultimate BEC he was saying that 6 v was to much for "heli" applications and suggested only 5v ?? So 6v is what most of you are using and getting what you want - 401 gyro and say HS56 servos ?

Thanks Ezra - can't argue with success in the field - the owner of Kool Flight Systems said all his heli shop buyers are stocking only 5v! But you and so many Runryder people all say 6v - that works for me - I will order 6v right now - thanks again!

How you guys to remove/pull out the red wire in the ESC plug that between the receiver.I dont want to cut off the red wire from the ESC plug. Seem difficult to pull out the red wire with the pin and isolate it. Thank you for your input and solution.

Use the tip of a #11 knife blade (or a pin or anything else small and thin) to lift the little plastic tab that holds the pin in.

Do you only need a BEC if you are using 4s lipos?? I am getting a CC25, 430LF, and 3S/TP2100s...do I "need" a BEC??

Remember when flying inverted that down is up and up is EXPENSIVE!

Believe yes. 430L is strong motor. If you are using this motor along with hs56 servo's (which are great), capacity of even 35A ESC is taxed! I use Quark 33 ESC along with Medusa BEC, everything cool and smooth.

Raptor3DPilot,

The only reason you would need a BEC with your setup is overheating.
Maybe someone with a CC setup like yours could chime in.

There is something about high voltage setup (4S or 5S) on the trex tuning site.

See here
