I have been practising funnels (tail-low, skids out)for the past month on a Raptor 50, but am having problems adjusting for wind. My funnels look reasonable (smooth) but they always drift downwind.

What is the best way to compensate for wind? Any changes I try to make results in a botched maneuver!

Hi:

As for fighting drift while doing funnels, I use two tecniques. One of them is a combination of collective/elevator work. When the heli is going to be upwind, I apply more collective but at the same time I apply more elevator to prevent it from rising. Then, as I'm going downwind, I release the collective and elevator. The variation of controls during the funnel don't affect the way it looks as long as you don't over apply them.

The other technique I use is work out the sync between the roll rate and tail rate. Playing with both will also affect the direction and tendency the heli is going to.

These techniques take time to master so don't rush and be sure you understand what you're doing.

Notice your increase in speed when going downwind and figure what to do about that. Also notice WHERE that speed increase is already starting
