Can you guys help me to diagnose what I am doing wrong on G3?

I get into what looks like a 5 to 10' circle when doing full on side hovers on G3. sometimes clockwise, sometimes counterclockwise.

I realize I need more practice, but I am wondering if anyone went through this stage and found out "hey, I am doing this with the cyclic or this with the collective..."

I can do a decent side hover as long as the helis at a slight angle to tail in. Doesnt need much, just a little and i am ok. But once it goes full on sideways, I start to make it do circles then its constant fighting to bring it back to a stable spot. I usually just land it and start agin or go fly a circuit with it and bring it back in front of me and try again.

Happens to me on G3 and sometimes in real life. Trick is to recognize the PIO and take measures to stop it.

thanks. I know it starts by being late on a correction. I can easily understand the problem visually of seeing a drift looking dead on the side of the heli. In tail in and even nose in the moment of drift is seen immediately.
I still wonder if its dead on side-am I making corrections in the wrong direction like can happen nose in or am I purely too late to see the drift?

Maybe I just need more time, though more info like that article has always helped me!!

I just read sme more and I might be fooled a bit by the translating tendency. I will try and stop lookng for a specific attitude of the ship (seeing a little of top of rotor or the pair of skids) and concentrate just on the body of the heli and it moving away. best to not learn any bad habits!!

I had some progress on the full on side hover. Still not locked in, but noticed due to the angles I was hovering at, I was mistaking a drift purely away as being it drifting maybe forward and away or back and away. Like Fritzthecat mentioned, I identified the start of the PIO and it helped.

So I was seeing what looked like a drift that comprised some forward and side cyclic when in fact it was usually just one!! I tend to do all my hovers to my front and sides, alternating from my right to left so as not to get locked inot any patterns. I almsot never hover right in front of me.
