i posted a while back about a high frequency vibe that appeared out of nowhere at high head speed when i spooled up my rex, which hadnt been crashed with any of the parts on it. i replaced the tail shaft and rebuilt the tail even though it hadnt been crashed, but i was at a loss. After putting the new Neu 1107 in to replace my AON the problem was still there in idle 2 (@ about 2600 rpms) and nothing i did would solve it so i was forced to lower the headspeed.

Tonight i decided to throw a set of hyperion carbon tail blades on as a last resort and FINALLY!!! the vibration completely dissapeared and i can run any headspeed and its smooth as glass. The normal plastic tail blades just can't keep up with that high of an rpm apparently and resonate horribly at certain rpms (so much so that it twisted the entire boom 90 degrees sitting at zero pitch while spooling up on the ground as soon as it hit the trouble rpm range)

so for all of you guys who are getting high freq vibes and have replaced all the shafts without improvement, throw a set of stiffer hyperion carbon tail blades on and u'll be as good as new.

I switch from the stk plastic blades to Align's HS1138 carbon/plastic blades. Smooth as a baby's doo doo factory.

Thanks for the post. I am pulling my hair out with the exact same problem since I switched to a medusa 3400 on 4 cells. Anything over 55% throttle vibrates terriby. The tail case rotates just like you described. With the tail blades off it is smooth as glass all the way to 100% throttle. I tried carefully ballancing 2 different types of blades. The trex has been sitting on the bench for a couple of weeks because I did not know what else to try.

I will order a couple sets of hyperion carbons tomorrow.

I had a Rex do this recently, replaced the tail shaft, the blades, even the TR case. Even experimented with balance using bits of trim MonoKote on the bladed. What finally solved my vibe problem was to replace the ball bearings back there. Seems the ones I had been using went south and started to show a bunch of radial wear. Just enough to let the shaft wobble a bit and whammo -- vibes at 1/2 throttle and up.

HS1138 are brittle. I chipped a couple of those and I fly and land on grass. I don't know how the chips got there.
I use HS1132. They seem pretty good. The only problem is a set I have were totally off balanced. I bought 2 more sets and matched the blades up. This minimizes the use of tape to balance the blades.

As I said, I don't know how the chips got there. Maybe I knocked a pebble from the lawn or something. I landed it a few times flying away and at one point while I was hovering it I noticed the tail vibrating. I stopped it and there's the chip.

There were other posts in the past of people landing on concrete and accidentally nicking the tail and the tail blades (HS1138) would shatter. Other than that, they did fly pretty good.

Where's the best place to get Hyperion Tail blades?
It seems only Allerc has these for sale. Any other heli shops? By the way, I'm impressed with Hyperions other products... just got the E-Meter and its excellent.
