I was just wondering. What is the ideal head speed for hard 3-D, with a raptor 50v2?

1950 to 2000 seems pretty popular.

2000 will put the engine at 17000 for the standard gear ratio of 8.5. This is right on the max power for the Hyper engine and works great with the MPII in my case. You should check your gear ratio, engine peak power rpm and muffler specs to find the ideal head speed for your setup.

1950-2000 agreed, with a metal hub. 1800 max w/plastic.

I don't know about others, but as soon as those 8.73 gearsets for the Titanium become available as a separate option I'll be switching. With peak power on a Hyper at 17000, going from 16575 to 17025 rpms for the same 1950 headspeed can only make that fine engine smile even more.

Don't use it
Straight into idle up before its off the ground, and idle up is set at 2000 here.

LOL well yeah of course we could do that, but I am talking if maybe (don't laugh to hard) you want to fly F3C pattern with the raptor 50. 1600ish? sounds like a decent speed for hovering manuevers.

With an 8.5:1 gear ratio 2000 rpm puts the Hyper and OS 50 in its happy place at 17000 rpm.

Steven, in normal mode I am running a headspeed of 1750 on my R50SE with Hyper and MPII. It works fine for hovering, cruising around and even pulling some sharp turns. I lift off nose in, power up backwards at full collective, then come back in at a fast descent still nose in. All works fine at 1750, the heli runs nice and quite and the fuel consumption drops. Admittedly I am using a GV1 to keep the head speed constant.
Hey Loz, In IU2 at 2000 headspeed I also use a full tank in 10 minutes or less.

OS 50 Hyper Headspeed
I've got an OS 50 Hyper/MPII, TT metal head, standard plastic blade grips and 30% Curtis

I've seen you say 2000HS puts the Hyper into its element @17000rpm

Is it ok to run mine with a idle up of 2000 with the mentioned setup?

Had it tacho'd the other day at 19?? and it was screaming its knackers off!!!

Its finally run in and i'm fine tuning it before I drop the Revlock in to keep it sweet. But i'm a little uncertain to have it so high. Bearing in mind i'm not doing hard 3D....just yet....

Regards

Matt
