I am just wondering what is the current motor, ESC, and battery combo of choice. I see a lot of people running different stuff and they are all happy. Looks the the Aon 3500 is nice. The Nue 1107 is a stump puller but what about all the 4s stuff? The Astro 803T has some good numbers but no one seems to be flying them. Just looking for some input.

I’m building a 450XL HDE and I did some research about this. Here’s what I’m using with other popular choices in ( ) following the item I’m using:

- Astro 803T (Nue, Aon, Medusa. Best bargain price motor JGF 450TH)
- Quark 33A ESC (Kontronix Jazz, CC 35)
- GY401/Airtronix 94761z digital servo (GY401/Futaba 9650, GY240/HS-56)
- Hitec HS-65 Cyclic/Collective servos (HS-56, Futaba 310x)

There are many other threads on RR talking about this very same subject.

I am also doing research on the hotest setup for an SE and been reading alot of posts here on RR and on TrexTuning.com. I started by considering the NEU 1107-2Y as it is reported to have great power using the EVO1800-4S1P and a Jazz 40-6-18 ESC. The down-side to this set-up is its weight. Compare this to the JGF 450TH with TP2100-4S Pro Lite and CC-35 which should have similar power but is about 60 gr. lighter. This should make a significant difference on the flight performance. I addition it is about $135 less expensive.

You can save an additional 20 gr. by using the TP2000-4S Pro Lite. They can not put out as many Amps but that is probably not a big issue when using 4S.

Flight performance is a function of both power and weight so consider this when selecting your equipment. My set-up will be:
- T-rex 450SE
- JGF 450TH with 10 or 11 tooth pinion
- TP2100-4S Pro Lite
- CC-35 ESC
- ParkBEC 6v (6.2gr switching regulator)
- HS-56 servos on cyclic / pitch
- CSM SL560 Gyro with HDS-877 digital servo

This should make for a light and powerfull setup.

NoControl- Why did you order a separate BEC when the Jazz already has a great onboard BEC good to 6S Lipo?

I agree that the best bang for the buck is the 430L (cause its so cheap), BUT, it is by far NOT the best hot setup.

i tried a few motors and went for the Medusa 2800 on 4S, it is very light and works awesome on 11T with my Evo20 1800 packs. very efficient as well, i get about 7:30 minutes of powerful 3D on 85% of the 1800Mah pack !

check out the vids on my site.

How much better is the 6 volt vs. 5 volt setup with the hs-56 servos and 9650 ? I have almost the exact setup as above Medusa 2800, jazz, 9650, etc. and I even have the 6 volt BEC but I've been too lazy to try it. Is there a noticeable difference in 'feel' of the heli on 6 volts ?

thanks

"Why did you order a separate BEC when the Jazz already has a great onboard BEC good to 6S Lipo?"

???? I do not know!!!! I fly nitro only (for now - still waiting for delivery) and after searching and talking to Jeremy that is what was advised. From posts above it seems that without the BEC I will have 5V to electronics and with BEC I will have 6V - so I am interested to hear the answer on "How much better is the 6 volt vs. 5 volt setup with the hs-56 servos and 9650?"

"....but there are many ways to do it... " Must be, but I know nothing, so I went with advice and items sold at RCHover.
