Hey guys I am putting my new OS 50 hyper in my evo and I noticed that when I turn the crankshaft by hand that if I push in on it (as in towards the backplate) that I can hear something sounding like it is rubbing against the back plate. However, if I pull on the crankshaft (we are talking about movements of tenths of a millimeter) that it doesn't make a metal on metal contact noise. I have been flying for years but I don't remember ever hearing a noise like this before. Is it all okay or what do you guys think? -Steve

Take your clutch off and tighten the fan it is not tight on the crank shaft.

As long as when you pull out on the crank the rubbing goes away then it is OK and will not rub with the fan and nut tighten down properly.
I once had a OS 50 that had more than a slight rub on the back plate even if I pulled out on the crank and this was a new out of the box engine.
I had to disassemble the engine and completely seat the rear bearing which was not properly seated from the factory.

The front bearing takes the thrust of the crank. So if the clutch is not installed (which clamps the crank in place) what you describe is normal.
