Has anyone used this software? What comes with the program (disk, cable...etc) Is it any good. I'm looking at the demo of it now, but without a cable to attach to a Tx it is kind of useless. Does it use the trainer port (I'd guess that's the only way in or out) for this software. Looks better than a DataSafe, but the cost is kind of high.

Hi Perfesser Zero,

I designed the DataXchange so I hope I can answer some of your questions.. The demo version of the software you are running is 1.3 and the latest real version is 1.5 which adds the ability to view and edit your multipoint mixers.

The USB version of the DataXchange comes with a serial lead adaptor and a USB adaptor. This allows you to plug it into either your serial port or your USB port. It comes with all the drivers necessary and of course the DataXchange software.

You will need a trainer/buddy lead to plug your transmitter into the hardware box.

US price at the moment is $75 which I feel compares well to the DataSafe at $99 which does not support anywhere near the features of the DataXchange.

I hope there are some users on the forum who will chip in.. but any other questions please feel free to ask.

Cheers

Mark

Hey,

I have the original DataXchange using the serial lead and it's a great bit of software.
It's great for backing up model memories to your PC should you need to send in your Tx. for repair, also transfering a model memory to another JR tx. especially if it's a different model it works very well to. I took a model memory out of my 10X and had the software convert and send it across to my 3810 with excellent results. The pitch & throttle curves were within 1% of the figures in the 10X.

I could use it a lot more than I do, but the old laptop I have which has a serial connection it's battery is not good enough to have out on the field with me. I'll have to look into getting the USB version to use on my friends newer laptop that doesn't support serial connections.
However every so often I backup my important model memories to my PC and so should anything happen to my Tx. I have them still safe & sound for writing back to the Tx. It's this which is confidence inspiring especially as it takes a while to find a really nice setup in a model, which could then easily be lost should it fail.

My conclusion is that it's a great tool to have in amoungst your modelling bits and if like me on the 10X your limited to 10 model memories, but need a couple extra to try some changes to an already flying model, then this is the tool for you.

JR Tx support...
Well I have an XP8103DT Tx and a X-347 Tx. I figure the X-347 will not be supported but I do know the 8103 will. I didn't do the pounds to dollars conversion, but if the cost is about $75.00, I'd say it's well worth the cost. I hate having to do the menu thing on the 8103 (even though I've gotten very familar with it) and this looks like it would be just the thing to have. Maybe I'll buy that for my wife on her birthday (NOT!). Thanks for the response.

DataXchange with another dongle.
Hi,
RotarSoft, I have a JR9Xv2 that i am currently using on Flight Model Simulator with an aftermarket dongle and PPJoy software interface via the LPT (Printer port) of my computer.
This setup works very well and I was wondering if I were to purchase DataXchange software will it be possible to utilise my current dongle setup and have DataXchange interface with this setup? This will save me some money and not having a another dongle laying around?

Hi RichAur,

I'm afraid not. The JR transmitters are serial devices and the software is written to work over the serial port. Apologies... but the dongle/software combination is the only way to go..

Cheers

I got mine a couple of days ago, but it's missing the USB adapter and drivers. Sent an email to Midland and Rotarsoft tech support but have not heard anything yet. Looks like some great software though! Can't wait to use it! If I had a serial port on my computer I would be in business.

Hi Jay,

Sorry to hear about your problems. It appears Midland got a batch missing parts and although they've tracked them now a couple went out. I believe Midlands are shut this week owing to restocking so you should have an answer from them early next week then I recommend you contact MacGregor directly and they will send out the parts for you (http://www.macgregor.co.uk)

Cheers

Hi Mark,

I'm on leave for the next week/2 weeks (house move), KC & TLR where on leave last week so I wasnt able to sort anything out. I'll give them a call on Monday if I can and let them know that a goofup was made along the line. It may be worth you sending KC an email as well .
