If you buy a proper crimping tool, you can make you crimps look as good (and be as strong) as a factory crimp. It just takes practice. By a few extra plugs and practice first...

Click below for a couple of different views on this matter. Good info. -Steve

alvinrc is correct, in our vibration prone environment soldering the wires is just asking for a failure. Always crimp servo wires. The US Air Force studied this and require all cable connection on
Air Craft to be crimped. Wire to Wire are fine, Wire to pin must be crimped.

I use this one from Ashtek - it produces excellent crimps.

It's got a proper die and has a heavy duty ratcheting handle.

The U.S.A.F., aircaft manufactures and good avionics repair stations use high quality contacts, the correct tool to crimp these contacts, and trained personel to inspect the overall crimp process. The "open barrel" style of contacts that are used in the commercial industry and on our hobby products are not comparable with these high quality "closed barrel" contacts. If one is to compare crimping contacts with soldering contacts, one must be aware of the differences in these connections.
